As far as I know you will not be able to use your current neutral safety switch/backup light switch, the one located under your dash on your steering column, as floor mount shifters normally use a netural safety switch/backup light switch that is mounted at the floor shifter itself. Also the linkage will be different, as you said, and I dont believe there are interchangable parts between the floor and column shift linkages. Now I do not believe you have to drop the pan of the tranny and switch anything around as the tranny itself still shifts in the same patteren no matter which shifter is being used...I believe the shifters are desinged to take that into account and the tranny will be shifted in the correct manner (I hope that answered that part)
