NO, that is NOT how it should be done.
Sit back and think about things.
For your information, your starter is the biggest draw off of the battery and being as such, the big cables off of the battery need to go the the engine.
If you ground the battery like you did, then the engine may never crank over like it should AND if you have a connection between the engine/transmission combination with something like a cable driven floor shifter, you may fry the cables inner cable to the outer sheathing and once this happens, the engine may crank over and fire right up but due to damage to the shifter cable, you may not be able to go anywhere as the cable if welded up preventing it's movement.
If all else fails, look at other cars out there and talk to the owners and you can see and be informed as to the right way to do things.
Keep in mind that what you show is a generic replacement cable and if you have this big cable going from the battery negative post to the engine, you also need another properly protected wire going from the battery negative to that fender screw.
