Probably not the right forum, but whatever...

One of my co-workers today asked me what started as a simple question but i realized its something i should know, but don't...its about mig wire thickness...

he asked if the thicker wire, say .035 would put down more heat than .023...i originally thought it would only lay more filler, but then i thought maybe it does allow more amperage to be tranferred...anyone have a definitive answer to this

Definately, We used .045 wire on pipe that was turned on a machine as you welded. It would glow red just like a stick weld with large rod.
