I'll post this on the Nova site also.
Has anyone ever heard of 72 Nova SS with a FACTORY "Sky roof" option
This is a vinyl fold up accordion thing, I have only seen on VW bugs
Owner claims its original
Has a dealer window sticker says " Vinyl Sky roof" code XCF110
then he has a GM build sheet says " Vinyl Sky roof code CF1
Can this be factory ????
Is this a SS ???
VIN number = 1X27K2L167619

The Sky Roof is factory for 72-73. (here's one:http://community.webshots.com/photo/335406786/1335490746043465303qakDGR)
Check out the WV RPO's here: http://novaresource.org/rpo2.htm (CF1 is listed for 1973. Maybe yours was a late 72?)

VIN/SS infor here (http://www.novaresource.org/rpo_Z26.htm)

The 5th is a K the original engine is gone and it has a 283 in it now :-(

He does have the build sheet and window sticker they LOOK REAL to me. the car really looks factory original needs full rear quarters.

I know this top is Rare But does it make the car Valuable. ?????

1972 = optional package: because 1972 is the first year the original engine is coded in the VIN, you can tell a real SS by the engine code. All 1972 Novas came with the L48 350 4-bbl engine. The L48 was only available in the SS so if the 5th digit of the VIN is a K, the original engine is a L48 and it must be a real SS. BTW, like 1969-71 Novas, all 1972 Super Sports had power front disc brakes.

Does this mean if the 5th is a "K" then it MUST be a SS even if you dont have the original engine to verify ?

In this case, valuable is probably in the eye of the buyer. If it was original and intact, it might up the value. As it is, I don't know. It doesn't seem to be a sought after option. If it's in good shape and doesn't leak, it's kinda cool, though.

Well it's mine now !!!!

Bought it Friday :)

I have learned alot already !!!

Apparently this was available only in 72 & 73 and there were
6,822 Nova's with this option.

I have always liked rare options !
I like having the only car at the local "cruise in" with a unique option.

At the local Cruise in this weekend there were 5 = 69-72 Novas,
None had Buckets & console, None were SS's, and of course None had a factory Vinyl sunroof :D

PS: I am going to change my screen name for this site. ("Blown 70" is my screen name on Team Chevelle ! it refers to my 70 Chevelle (SS clone), Supercharged 396(402), T400, 12 bolt posi.

Hello Nova Net,

I just joined today (4/19/08) and couldn't be happier to find this site.

I'm now on my 2nd Sky Roof '72 Nova. The first one wasn't an SS, but this "new" one is! I sold my first Sky Roof back in 1988 (before I knew it was a true factory option), then spent 19 years searching for another one.

Well it's here. Thank god. A true SS, and it has a 427 stuffed in it. Wow.

I do think they add some value to the car. To quantify that value is tough though. I just know people really like to see it. Forget the rumble of the 427, most people want to know about the top.

HELP Please: Now, I need parts. The rest of the car is 95% there, but the top is in poor shape. I need all of the parts - from the plastic wind screen, to the latch assembly, to the whole damn frame that's bolted into the roof sheet metal.

PLEASE drop me an email to [email protected] if any of you know where I can get these things. NOS (New Original Stock) would be great, but used stuff is just as welcome.

Many thanks - great forum. Jim

Hey Jim, Welcome to the Team ;)

best bet for parts is to place an ad in the "wanted" section of the classifieds and to keep an eye on E Slay, local papers & swap meets.

i wish ya luck with the project ;)
