I have a 1966 Nova II and currently have a 4" Harwood hood on it that came with it when I bought the car. I am building a 406 sbc to put in the car. My question is can I go down to a 2" cowl and still have the motor fit under the hood? Under the carb I will have a cheater plate and a small spacer possibly. Any feedback from those of you who have 2" and 4" cowls and the space you have below them and the top of your engine would be greatly appreciated.

It should fit with no problems. To check run a string line between the fenders and measure how high the string is above the motor mounts. Then measure the engine from the mount point to the air cleaner and compare the measurements. Keep in mind you will have the additional 2", but my guess is it would fit under the stock hood. If any clearance problems are found you can also gain a little buy using a dropped base air cleaner.
