haha - to each their own gents.
I would think they are from their "one off" wheel collections. Which to me, means big $$$

They are a variation of the original Hildebrand magnesium cast wheels that looked like these American Wheel knock offs.
http://www.americanracing.com/wheels/VN470/VN4704 The originals had no polished surface, and they were chosen to reduce weight (hence the choice of magnesium metal). http://www.coastal181.com/2014-BENTLEY/600-WD-1263.jpg Mags where only used by the four percent high end racers who where rich enough to not only waste money on high speed racing but could afford magnesium metal wheels that has always been a fairly rare metal (despite the ocean floor being littered with the pure metal in the form of nodules). Every one else ran either a wire spoke wheel of a thirties era car (light weight) or a solid steel wheel if they where racing in the slower sportsman races. Hildebrand's magnesium "mag" wheels with the kidney bean slots didn't become popular until the seventies with the introduction of "funny cars". Prior to that every one ran five spoke wheels with a number of variations on that theme. Big Dave |
