Default 72 & 73 hoods same?

Just recently bought a 73 nova and I'm putting in a big order for body parts (thank you bigdave for the rear quarter panel patch set link in previous thread ) and need to verify for sure that a 72 hood is the exact same as a 73, from what I've gathered the only difference is the chrome trim piece that goes on the nose, is that correct? And if so would the 73 trim still fit and look right on the hood?
I was going to get a fiberglass bolt on to shave a few pounds (not a race car build, but why not ) but was quickly advised by two of my car buddies that fiberglass hoods always crack and everyone they know with fiberglass hoods have cracks, and I am very anal about the appearance so changed my mind to a steel hood, however I want a 4" cowl because I love the look but they only make a 4" steel cowl hood for "68-72" nova, so need to make sure that hood will fit perfect on a 73.
Out of curiosity, anyone here have fiberglass hood with no cracking issues?
Sorry for the long novel, thanks in advance. Cheers

That's exactly who I was looking at for the hood and was planning on ordering, then my buddy put a little fear in me I really would like to get the fiberglass over steel but now I'm worried of it cracking

There are two different weights of glass offered. Race glass is very thin and prone to cracking if driven on the street. Full weight glass isn't a bolt on (too heavy to easily lift off at a gas station). Instead regular weight glass uses the stock hinges and hood latch with a weaker hood spring to keep from bowing the hood (it's heavy but not as heavy as a steel hood).

I know a few people that have the street hood, none have any issues with cracking and had them for a few years now, definitely don't want to run the race hood on the street..

That makes me feel better. So the hardwood FG hood has two options lift off or bolt on, so the bolt on one is the heavier glass then correct?
That could be the issue because my buddies friends cars are all lift off hoods on track cars. I just assumed they were basically the same hood as far as material and build go

Ask your friends how many hrs of body work to make the hood presentable. I have CF doors, and trunk lid on my 70 Chevelle, they were much straighter than my fiberglass hood. The bolt on hoods have the reinforced area, and threaded inserts for the hinges. My stock hinges with the "light" spring would end up cracking the glass somewhere. I changed to Fesler billet hinges, and their ram was too strong also(caused a bow), I did get replacements rams to work. Just my opinion, 4" is kinda tall for the Nova if you don't need it, but you need to make you happy. The CF hood vs glass might even out price wise with the difference in the amount of body work for the glass. Good luck...

Could anyone verify that the 68-72 nova hood is the exact same as 73 minus the trim around the nose? I believe that's the case but not sure

Ye, the bolt on's are way heavier made, the race hoods are flimsy and use pins or Zeus fasteners to hold them in place, no provisions for hinges and latch.

68-72 hood fits onto 73 no problem minus the trim difference which you already know about. All good.

That’s great information about the hoods guys. Thanks. It can be a bit of a bear to find parts for the ‘73.

I'm new here but I thought I would chime in on the hoods. I have a 73 Nova with a 73 hood and a 68-72 grill and latch support. I'm not sure on the years of the fenders. There's a gap between the top of the grill and the hood that I don't like. I recently purchased a used 71 hood and plan to replace the 73 hood after I repaint it so that I no longer have the gap. I'm itching just to put it on to verify but still haven't yet.
