Default 1970 SS front grille emblem

Hi Guys,

Okay... the front grille SS emblem is not symetrical in design.

One side is flat - the opposite side is curved to follow the outline of the SS letters.

Which side is UP?
That is the first stupid question.

The second issue is - if I install the emblem - flat side down (which I believe to be correct) the studs are too short for the retainers to be effective

If I flip the Emblem - flat side up the studs now work effectively with the retainers - but it just does not look right.

Thanks for the advice!

Flat side definately goes down. The studs on the back should go through the third gap down which sets the emblem a little higher on the grille than dead center. If the studs still do not work than you may be using the wrong emblem.

Thank you Gloryhound....

Someone installed the emblem on the lower portion of the grille.
I knew it was incorrect - but the fit was not as desirable as I wished.

I am on it this afternoon.....

HI Gloryhound,

I wanted to thank you once more for the info.
I attacked it yesterday with excellent results.
Apparently, the reproduction retainers are too wide, and will interfere with the verticle ribs of the grille (and this is a licensed GM repro part). A slight mod to those retainers (they are too wide) and it fits perfectly now.

I appreciate your advice..... as the emblem was DRIVING ME NUTS since I knew it was just not right.
