Doug's are top quality(also pricey)had a set on my dually still have them actually, the flanges are narrower on the bottom than most headers that's why they don't hit the head bolt, you could do the same thing to a set of Hedmans for half the price.

I decided to go with them and just do it right. I didn't want to grind off the ceramic and rig it up somehow. I hear they are also custom trimmed for the Gen VI Big Blocks. I am very happy about that. Also if you look at the 5th cylinder tube it goes behind the rest. On most other headers that is the one tube that hits the steering gear box. So I would pay $650 any day to just be done with all this trial and error and issues to have it done right.

I will let you guys know once I receive them on how they fit. This might help the next guy in my shoes.

For any of you who have this zz454 motor or 502, what starter did you go with?

I find it weird that most of the mini style starters just have a gear hanging out there with no cover. I have always used the factory covered half dome style, so whats the deal with the mini style with the gear fully exposed? I feel those will get gunked up really fast.

A big block has a more displacement than a small block. That requires bigger primary tubes to vent the combustion chamber. Since a big block doesn't fit in a Nova to begin with, as you have to move it to clear the steering gear box, requiring special frame stands and transmission cross-member. This also means there isn't room for big primary tubes and a starter. That is why the deluxe ZZ kits come with a mini starter (P/N 12606096).

Okay good to know, thank you. Is that one really worth $350 in comparison to the same style at $60-$150 in other brands?

I know quite a few people who use DB Electrical out of Tennessee 0n 500+ engines with no issues at all, and some use Powermaster with all kinds of problems, maybe it's luck who knows, but they all use Chinesium parts or equivalent, so they're not really made in USA just assembled in USA, I been using Delco myself with no problems so far, again maybe it's just luck.

As big dave stated the starter for the zz502 was a #09000852 that number is now #12606096. As for the headers be aware all suppliers will tell you that their headers will fit your car Don't believe it. I first purchased dougs 2" tubes that weren't even close to fitting then I went with hooker they wouldn't even bolt to the heads. then went back to dougs 17/8 tubes that fit better but still had issues after mods done to these I have about 1200 dollars in them after power coating. they fit but collectors hung to low for my liking. So I then went with sanderson shorttys they fit perfect. As for the oil pan mine came with a 6 qt. Don.t go to a smaller capacity because these engines have a high volume oil pump that a GM tec said will suck about 4 qts of oil out of the pan during startup which leaves the picup tub sucking air. If any one is interested in any other issues my cell# is 8567256422 my name is Tom
