Default Painting a cowl hood to match the body color?

Can a new steel 2" cowl hood be painted to match my 63SS bright Red color body paint that's about 10 years old? I'm afraid to invest all the money and then not have it match correctly? What's your thoughts to all painters out there? Can it be done to look presentable?

Absolutely, a good painter will be able to tint the paint to match, assuming your clear is still good and glossy. I had the grill on my truck painted to match the 12 year old white paint and you'd never know.

That one I couldn't tell ya haha does AMD make one for that year? For the 3rd gens they have been the best bet from what I've seen for steel hoods

My favorite hood scoop (blister) is the 1968-'72) C3 Corvette L-88 hood. It is what was used on the Baldwin motion Camaros. The L-88 hood only appeared on L-88's from the factory. The LT-1 and all other hood "scoops on the 'vette where flat raised hood blisters like a cold air package on a Chevelle or Camaro, but never opened up in the back; just blending into the hide a way wiper lip curl up.

Here is a mini L-88 hood scoop made to fit a flat Mustang hood (similar to the the Nova flat hood):

Here is the hood scoop used on the 425/435 horse (L-72) 427 in the '67 Corvette:

This design is also for a flat hood (the round part in the center was part of all C2 Corvette hoods).

Ignoring the Thunder Bolt hood blister from Ford the only other hood scoop to attract my attention was the open air monster hood used on SS/A Hemi 'cudas

It is what it is, a big honkin hole to suck in air.

These days, the better body shops use a special camera to match paint. They can paint the hood and make it indiscernible to the rest of the car.

And that, fellas, is why I love technology. Heck, it really made the paint job stand out more, in my opinion.

If you find the right painter, even 49 year old lacquer can be matched! Hood was painted along with the tops of the fenders to the break edge. When I asked if he had used a spectrophotometer, he laughed and pointed to his own eyes. He said to me "new paint systems now in use reflect light differently than the old lacquer". All I can say is that I hope he doesn't move out of town! Very talented young man.
