Default What wires?

I do not have a Fisher body manual for the Nova, and I'm wondering if these can be Identified? I'm not sure this is an original harness as well, the loom is taped all the way back to the bulkhead, and I am hesitant to unravel the tape job. I'm used to a woven jacket being a resistor wire, if it is I'll need to bypass it for the MSD. Thank you

MSD uses only one wire from the stock wiring harness and that is used to turn the ignition box on. I would need more info to answer your question such as what color or color combination (stripe color) is the wire in question?

I'll betcha if I had added this picture, like I thought I did, it may have helped. From MSD's schematic it would be the switched + coil wire.

From my memory (that has more holes in it than a cullender) the green is for the horn, and the dark blue powers the passenger side turn signal lamp. Not a clue about the white with red stripe wire.

Found this schematic which should help:

Green is likely the temperature sending unit, blue is the oil pressure sending unit and the white one is the resistor wire (9 volts) that goes to the ignition coil.

Thank you Carl, I was thinking the woven jacket was a resistor wire. Is the yellow wire(with the tag) ganged with the resistor the switched wire?

I don't have a diagram in front of me so this is going by memory.

Yes, they are together. The resistor wire is about 9 volts which feeds the coil when the key is "on" (ignition switch in run position)

The yellow wire is a full 12 volts and attaches to the outside small terminal on the starter solenoid and feeds the coil full voltage when the ignition switch is in "crank" position.

The white coated woven appearing wire IS the ballast resistor for a points system. The actual wire strands are silver, over 7 - 1/2 feet long (that is what gives the ohms of the resistance).

If you look closely at the white woven cover, it will not appear as a cloth woven cover, but as a white plastic poured cover over the poured insulation over the silver stranding.

The yellow wire is the full voltage starting bypass that gives the full voltage boost to start the points system easier.

The reason the wire set is 7 - 1/2 feet long is two fold, this gives the correct 1.80 ohm resistance for points systems, and the same wire works for either inline 6 (distributor is at the front of the engine), or, V8. Same wire, different routing in the loom.

Easy way to power up the MSD box is to connect a 12 gauge wire from the IGN, or IGNITION terminal on the fuse box, to the red power wire input on the MSD box, done.

Then, tape the white/yellow wire pair up to insulate it, and tuck it up into the stock wiring loom. This way doesn't alter the loom, keeps the resistor and start bypass wires in place, and workable in case they are needed later.
