You are correct. There is a spring that goes under the dash to hold up the clutch pedal. and a second spring to prevent the clutch linkage from falling apart. The clutch has one end of the spring in the throw out bearing arm and the other end attached to a bracket on the stock exhaust manifold where the tail pipe attached. With headers I put a stainless steel hose clamp on one of my primary tubes and attached the spring to the pipe with the hose clamp. You want to keep the weight of the clutch pedal from causing the throw out bearing from riding on the diaphragm spring levers. All the lower spring did was to hold the rod in the socket of the throw out bearing arm.
