Exclamation Re: rear diff decoded

If you're trying to decipher the gear ratio, take the cover off and spin the ring gear.
Eventually, you'll come across some writing on the edge of the gear.

Re: 65 rear differential

Could it be that your LSD was made for an 8.5" rear end?
Could be why it won't fit in your 8.2" rear end.

Re: How can I improve my cars horsepower and sound

That's only one variation of the Sagniaw, Dave.
There was also a 3.5/1.89 and 3.11/1.84 gearset, as well as the standard truck gearset; 2.85/1.68.
GM took those 3-peed gearsets and developed...

Re: rear end decoding

A bit late to the party, as King hasn't been around for about 5 years, but I noticed everyone seemed to interpret is question as wanting to decipher gear ratio of the differential, but I didn't read...

Thumbs up Re: How can I improve my cars horsepower and sound

One thing you can do with any inline six is to replace the stock muffler with a straight thru muffler (like a cherry bomb).
Sound won't be that obtrusive, but will definitely take on a much better...

Re: Richmond 5 speed

Would be nice if you could replace the seat with one that had a cutaway in the middle, or if you could just cut a hunk away from the middle and reupholster.
...might not be a practical solution, at...

Stock power ratings?

Anyone know what the HP & torque rating was for a regular ol' 396 & 427 was?
I'm talking about something you might've pulled out of a dump truck, NOT an L78 or similar.
I used to know, but have...

Re: Richmond 5 speed

Other way around.
Richmond owns Doug Nash (or did, anyway).
They used to offer "The Doug Nash Transmission", but I don't see it at Richmond's site (https://www.richmondgear.com/) anymore.
I'm...

Re: Second opinion

Jerry,

Just to be clear, if you find the wheel cylinders do need replacing, that doesn't necessarily mean the master is ok.
You still need to test it, regardless of what you find down the line....

Re: Second opinion

JMHO, but yes, it sounds like you have a bad master.
Do the line lock test I described in my other post, to verify.
Also, 69Nova350 had some very good advice with pulling off the boot and checking...

Re: Second opinion

jerryt,

There's a special tool for working on brakes called a "Line Lock".
It looks like a C-clamp, but its specially designed to safely clamp brake lines without breaking them.
You need to line...
