if a 4 door cant be considered muscle.... then what about the 1996 ss impala (imo one of the sexiest 4 doors ever made)
I just cant knock a car cause of 2 extra doors.. especially if the power and style are there! (besides just means more room for nawwwsss!) >

i recently sold my '66 Bel-Air, it was a 4 door... to me it looked like an undercover cop car. i had wanted to stuff a 427 BBC and a Muncie in it, lowered slightly, steelie wheels with dogdish caps, dark windows. i wanted spotlights in the "A" pillars too... it'd look just like a Narc car
if the old style cop cars didn't scream Hi-Perf at ya then i think ya'll need glasses

I hope that I'm building one of (THE) nicest 4door cars in the area or beyond.
But I'll be the first to admit that I have turned many 4doors (and wagons) into scrap piles and parted them out. I don't believe 4doors are muscle and I surely don't believe in the "sleeper" thing unless it's a true ratrod. BTW, I did just put a 63SS under the blade as a parts car for my 4door!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

In my own defense, here is a quote from the muscle car wiki located @:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_car
"Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high performance automobiles. According to a contemporary issue of Road Test magazine (June 1967), a "muscle car" is "Exactly what the name implies. It is a product of the American car industry adhering to the hot rodder's philosophy of taking a small car and putting a BIG engine in it. Opinions vary as to whether high-performance full-size cars, compacts, and pony cars qualify as muscle cars." There...it says opinions vary, so there is no definite definition

And if I can throw in some historical perspective, Muscle first appeared in the late fifties and early sixties with the Buick "Nail Head", the full sized Tin Indian powered by a 421, Ford's introduction of the FE 427 side oilier in the Galaxies.
When the horsepower wars started there were no compact or mid sized cars (Chevelle didn't appear until 1964 same year as the six cylinder powered Mustang) to put the big V-8 engines into so they used full sized production sedans that all came in two or four doors (but the two door was considered an odd-ball car back then; with no resale value due to the difficulty of getting into and out of the back seat). If you wanted an economy car (small in size and light in weight) you looked at the Corvair (which everyone bought because it was sporty, not because it was cheap), or the Falcon. Neither of which would accept a Ford FE or a Pontiac 421. The Chevy II and Tempest were in the same situation Except the Pontiac Tempest used the Corvair transaxle with a front mounted four cylinder engine. The factory never thought of it, but a lot of hot rodders were dropping in 348-409 'W' motors into the early Chevy II and were cleaning up at the drags as the 409 was a high RPM low torque motor that didn't twist the body up in a ball as it left the line (mostly due to the limitation of the recapped slicks of the day).
