Default Saginaw 4 speed identification

I was helping a friend pull the 4 speed out of his 65 Chevelle today(yeah I know it was over 100* but I have an air conditioned garage) and it turns out his trans is a 4 speed saginaw. Does anyone know of a site that can help us decode what this trans might have come out of originally? He knows for a fact that it is not the factory trans. Depending on what we can find out he may advertise the trans on E-bay. He is putting in a brand new 6 speed.
