Default Suspension adding rear sway bar

Are there any issues regarding adding a rear sway bar to a 76 Nova?

Welcome to the board Dennis!

Only if you don't have one. Rear sway can be mounted several different ways depending upon how you wish the vehicle to perform. Most demanding set-up and installation is for drag racing (bet you thought I was going to pick road racing). Road racing and NASCAR style requires a heavier duty version of the stock design, and the stock one was only used on the SS or if you ordered a heavy duty suspension (was also part of the cop car package that the SS was based upon).

Big Dave: Thanks for the prompt reply. My 76 Nova does NOT have a REAR swaybar so am considering adding a 3/4 ". Also, considering increasing the FRONT swaybar from 1 " to 1 1/4". Starting the Nova upgrade with suspension related enhancements (i.e. shocks, 15 x 7 wheels, subframe connectors) and then moving to the engine and transmission.

Smart move. Global West and Hotchkiss both sell upgrades to support your desires. Hotchkiss has a hollow front bar that is both very stiff and light for cornering as if on rails. Must say however, that being about the only game in town they seem to enjoy their status as it is reflected in their pricing.

Hey Dennis,

After having done this myself to a 74 Nova....you will LOVE it....add some tires, decent shocks, subframe spacers, and you'll be going around corners like you are on rails. I know a certain Corvette that will still outrun you though....

Dennis,

Here are some pics of my 15 year-old daughters '71 that we have been working on. This is what I would call the entry level anti-sway bar made by Addco. Make sure you install the sway bar before you have a new exhaust system done. I made this mistake once, so we were able to do this car in the right order. Good luck, Doug
