yes the bell housing bolt pattern is the same on the inline 6, small block and big block.

I don't think that is correct. I believe that the center hole is too small. The small block and 6-cylinder are different sizes and will not interchange.

You should be ok with the 67 bellhousing. As far as I've seen, only the 62 63 64 bellhousing has the small hole.

Does the casting number on it end in 309? If so, you are good to go.

The central hole size increased in diameter to accept the Muncie four speed (introduced in 1963, but the four speed wasn't used on a six cylinder) so a 1964 V-8 manual transmission application should have the larger hole. As stated above from 1965 up all bell housings interchanged as they had the larger hole, because of GM's one part rule.

The question was will it fit the engine block, but in 67 GM was using a 3 speed Saginaw as the standard manual transmission. That transmission had the same size bearing retainer as the 4 speeds.

depending on the casting number the sixer bell may or may not work with a Muncie 4spd. the bearing retainer hole for the sixer trans is smaller than that on a "309" housing (V8 housing)

here's a couple pics, some i STOLE!!!

You are right about the 64's. I was completely wrong about the year. The GM parts book says all 64's have the correct bellhousing. Only 62 and 63 are the small one according to the book.
