I need to find new padding for my 69 Nova bench seat. I will even consider buying and entire good condition seat just to get the padding?
Thanks in advance for the help. Chris Last edited by 65z13; Oct 26th, 09 at 09:51 PM. |

Chris,
Just stop by an upholstery shop... they should be able to help you out.

Just shove any old foam in there? The local shop leads me to believe it is a shape molded item I seek.

what would happen if you'd taken your seat in for an upholstery job... what foam would the shop be using ? i see there's bucket seat foam available from the restoration suppliers but i haven't seen it for a bench. i too would check my local reputable upholstery shop

You could always buy a temperpedic matress and cut that up. It is made up of six layers of alternating open and closed cell foam with only the two outer layers about two and a half inches thick being actual temperpedic foam.

That's funny. Actually, my son-in-law has been asking me to haul away a couple of mattress' and box springs. Maybe I'll sawzall them to see what's inside!

If you go tot a fabric store, you should be looking for high dense style foam. My rear seat has been done with that. I used three layers of high density foam 1/2" thickness. Once the cover is install is smushes it down fairly well.

I kind of did what Dave said. I bought high-density foam mattress pad at w-mart and used that. Works for me. (See pics on sig link) I let you know if a few years if it sags or anything bad. (of course that's assuming that I will actually drive the car again someday...ugh...taking soooo long and winter's here again)
