Sorry I have been off the computer a few days. The speedometer cable comes in behind the parking break and break pedal. I noticed the hole right above the gas pedal mounting plate. This hole is oval and is 3/4 X 1 inch and has a retaining bolt on top of it. Would you know what this hole is used for? Could it be for a down shift for a turbo 400?

Mike,on your 69 the kickdown switch for the turbo 400 should mount at the carburetor.Does the hole above the gas pedal bracket look original?

The hole looks orginal with a bolt above the hole. I took a couple of pictures of this but, I have no idea how to down load them to the internet. I'm going to ask how to do this over the next couple of days.

Also (on a side note) the COPO ZL1 Camaro's were non SS cars as well..

I bought a 1969 Nova off the showroom floor with the 375hp engine; automatic shifter on the column, no carpets, bench seats, 12 bolt rear. The automatic was the special duty box from the racing catalog. I raced it in NHRA "B" Stock Automatic. The 4-speed model was in "A" Stock but the automatic put it just in BSA; the lightest car in the class. Also, racing the non-SS model allowed the removal of the power brake unit; the SS required it under NHRA rules then.

The 53.6 on your title is for taxable horse power. 53.6 is 396 cid. Not all states used this. That right there tells you it was a 396 nova. I don't recall what the taxable horse power was on the small block and 6 cyl. Good luck s350s

If you are referring to the Yenko 427 Novas...they all started out as SS 396 cars....they were ordered with the L78 option and then the short block was changed over. Yenko did other upgrades and cosmetic things to these cars as well....not all of the Novas scheduled for the conversion received the 427...there were some that were never done. These cars are very rare and command a premium by certain collectors...wish I had 2 or 3
