Question Gasser steering pics wanted

I am putting a straight axle into my longroof and I was wondering if anyone has some pics of how the steering setup works? My axle came out of a 32 chevy 5 window coupe. If possible I would like to reuse the factory steering box.

Thanks, Jeremy

every Gasser guy i've talked to used either a Corvair or a Vega steering box...

there's a few Gasser links at JollyRodder, also in the album section/page i have a bunch of Gasser pics saved... maybe there's one there that'll help ya...

well Jeremy, somethings will have to be done regardless. steering is one of them. the linkage etc is critical on those to minimize bump steer... which i hear is an inherent issue with that style car.

do it right so ya don't end up eating a wall

Maybe Dale can give me some insight on this... once I get the axle mounted in the car!

i did a search at "Speedway Motors" "steering gear" and came up with this. i believe it's the same box used on the Wilshire Shaker"

If you have leaf springs you wont need a panhard bar. A near steer system will work, but make sure the steering arm is parallel to the front axle. A cross steer system is less sensitive to suspension movement and is the preferred way to go. You can locate the tie rod up front if you need to as well with no adverse effects.

I found when switching over to a Vega box I had to reverse the pitman arm and make it a "hi steer, front steer" to keep the angle of the drag link to a minimum. I'm not done setting up the front end just yet. Here are some in progress pic's hope this helps.
