Default 1970 GM (Chevy) 10-Bolt Rear End Code ID

Hello,

New to the forum - great stuff. Seeking help on correctly IDing the codes on a GM rear end sitting under a 1969 Camaro. I know, I know -- a Camaro and not a Nova, but that is how it came to me. Here is my question (dilemma): From what I can gather so far, the codes on my rear end point to a 1970 Chevy Nova. 10-bolt, open (non-posi), 8.2" ring gear, 2.73:1 ratio. I gathered this much from info listed on the NovaResource.com website. The driveline is hooked up to a 1969 Powerglide automatic trans and a Chevy SB V-8 307cid, 200hp engine. Here are my rear end codes:

Axle Code: CBP0722W2 (CBP - 1970 GM Chevy); (07 - July); (22 - 22nd day); (W - Warren, MI assembly plant); (2 - 2nd shift)
Differential Cover Bolts: 10
Note: The differential cover has a bulge (left of center) and not a upper case diagonal crease/indentation
Carrier Casting Codes:
(facing front of car) Left side: GM71; Right side: 3969340NF
(facing rear of car) Left side: G30 (G - July, 3 - 3rd day; 0 - 1970); Right side: CON2 (2nd shift? or Conveyer 2?)

It is the "CBP" part of the code, and the casting numbers that really have me stumped. I would appreciate any help to correctly decode my rear end. Thanks.

67-69 Camaro rear ends are direct bolt in for 68-72 Novas. Unless you are trying to resotre a Nova and have it all date code correct, I would use the rear end that you have if it is serving it's purpose. I dont think anyone is going to crawl under your car and say hey!!!! this is not the corrrect rear end for this car . If you are looking for some tiype of ring/pinion garing change that can be done, ir if you are looking for a posi that can be done as well. Or you can buy one that is already built from some aftermarket company's or local vendors.

CBP is a 70 Nova with 2.73 gears, open carrier, 8.2. You have decoded it correctly, what has you stumped, it being under a Camaro?

Phillip and Team Nova. Thanks for the quick and informative replies. Much appreciated. Phillip, I just wanted to ensure I accurately decoded my "CBP" rear end as a 1970 Chevy Nova. You've confirmed that for me. I don't mind at all that it's sitting under my Camaro. It's all good within the Chevy family legacy. v/r Rick
