Hotchkis Expands to New, Larger Facility

Sport suspension manufacturer’s new location allows for increased production, a larger R&D facility and a new onsite customer installation center.

Hotchkis Performance has outgrown its original home for over 17 years and is settling into a new facility in Santa Fe Springs with larger work bays, engineering suites, shipping/receiving areas and warehouse space. The move brings several Hotchkis shops and offices together under one roof, substantially increasing production and new product development capabilities. Another highlight of the new building is a large customer installation center, which offers everything from basic suspension installation and track prep services to complete vehicle construction and custom component fabrication.

"This move is the culmination of years of experience and growth," says Hotchkis founder, John Hotchkis. "We have more room for all facets of our business from R&D to sales and shipping. We have always been very customer service oriented, and our improved layout allows us to keep more products in stock, hire more employees and offer our customers personalized options such as installation, track prep and even custom builds. For example our first custom build is a scratch design high performance suspension system for Jay Leno’s 7.0L Ford Galaxie."

From a secure gated parking lot to a new showroom filled with product displays and the Hotchkis Porsche 962, the new facility is larger and more efficient in its layout. The new install center features with alignment racks and service lifts allows customers to have products installed on their vehicles, or even have custom work done on specialty cars and trucks. New plasma and laser cutters coupled with new in-house prototype R&D staff will substantially increase the number of new products coming out of the Santa Fe Springs based facility. Complementing the new service center are expanded shipping and packaging areas with a larger staff to improve turn-around times on mail and internet orders.

"The new facility lets us bring even better products and services to our customers," says Hotchkis. "We're thrilled with our new home and would like to invite everyone to come visit the shop, check out whatever projects are in the Install Center and view the 962 in the showroom."

I saw a thread over on another site and it got me thinking. I've come up with a couple cool products over the years and never bothered to market them or get a patent. This is one of them. A friend had a '69 Chevelle original A/C car but didn't want the A/C anymore. I made him an air box for under the hood that would allow his defroster and heat to still work. A couple friends saw this and wanted me to make them one too. I have one left. I made these in early 1994. I often wonder if someone saw one of mine and copied me. I should be rich by now. :(

If you ever happen to see one of these made out of aluminum, it's probably one of mine.

About the same time I prototyped a set of valve covers for SBC, they were two piece and went around the outer edge of the head. the top came off and you bolted them down from the inside. Then the top bolted on with the big block bolt pattern. The larger valve cover with the big block bolts on top would make you think at first glace that your small block was a big block. I was so proud of myself for such a great idea. ........until I saw a set of them on a car at a show two weeks later. They had B&M cast into the top of them. RATS! a day late and a dollar short on those.

So let's hear it, why aren't you rich right now? Ever invent something cool but not follow through with it?

In discussing how to make my car go faster with a buddy, he brought up the use of a vacuum pump to pull out the excess pressure in the crankcase. This would hook to the valve cover and pull from there. I looked them up and they are about 500 smackers!
Now, the question is, for the money, is this a step in the right direction or wrong way? If I were to get this, would the expense be worth the gain?

I understand the theory of pulling the pressure away from the backsides of the pistons and why it would be important, etc.

Second question comes about options. Do I really have to spend 500 to get this, or can I put a smog pump on the car, reverse the tubes (suction into the motor) and get the same effect?

What do you guys think?

Its a supercharged 383 with 8 psi now, 14 soon.

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has ever used Monroe Sensa-Trac load adjusting shocks with the coil springs or something similar? I need to raise the rear of my 70 Nova a little and would like to stiffen the suspension a little too. I also considered an Add-a-leaf. Right now I have mono leafs. If anyone has tried the Monroes, I might get them all around? They are reasonbly priced and I could get (4) of them for about the price of (1) new wheel that would fix clearance issues. Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Could always switch to multis.

Thanks in advance,

454 bored .060 over
Keith Black Pistons ( believe part # 203)
Cast iron cylinder heads of a 1970 Corvette, pocket ported, blended and decked.
Comp cams Xtreme energy camshaft:
intake: 224 / 230
Exhaust: 268 / 280
Lift: 0.515 / 0.520
lobe centerline: 110
intake centerline: 106
Edelbrock performance RPM manifold
Headers
HEI ignition
rods and crankshaft are stock (shaft has been ground)

My goal is a daily driver with plenty of torque and reliability. No plans to take it to the strip. I plan on changing the gears to 3:73 or 4:11s in the near future with a look at a beefed up 700R4 down the road. So my question is, if this was your car, what carb would you use and why? Thanks in advance!
