Big Dave Jul 18th, 09, 10:44 PM Looking Good Jeff. I have stayed in motel rooms that weren't any bigger than your car with the front seats out; of course they weren't as clean and nice as your car though.
Big Dave

kscoreusmc Jul 19th, 09, 04:01 PM I am really happy to see such a fine 4 door.
NIGHTSHADE Jul 19th, 09, 05:04 PM Thanks guys, it's amazing that this was supposed to be a parts car for my 2door.;) (insert Dave's pun here)
I just didn't have the heart to cut this one, it was too solid.
Made some more progress on the engine today, but when I dug out the balancer there is a deep groove worn in where the seal mates up.
Try finding one of those in good shape. Off to the machine shop tomorrow.
BTW Johnny, you must not have noticed the 4speed hump in the carpet. I just havn't put on the bezel and cut out the hole yet.
David_H Jul 19th, 09, 05:11 PM I'm going to be nice no jokes!!!!
I'm in so much pain i'm going to burst! http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x92/coachbob6811/smiley-shocked015.gif

SHIFTY4 Jul 19th, 09, 05:56 PM 1962 CHEVROLET CHEVY II 2.5L 153cid L4 : Engine : Timing Cover Repair Sleeve
FEL-PRO Part # 16202
Timing Cover; Use w/installation tool
$4.84 $0.00 $4.84
there is no special tool... place the sleeve on the balancer, cover with a piece of thick metal and drive on with hammer.
SHIFTY4 Jul 19th, 09, 05:58 PM it was the brake pedal that caught my eye ;)
NIGHTSHADE Jul 19th, 09, 06:01 PM 1970 CHEVROLET CAMARO 5.7L 350cid V8
Harmonic Balancer Repair Sleeve
BCA/NATIONAL Part # 88176 $5.84
Felpro makes one too... 153cid 4 banger, 194, 230, 250 Sixer or SBC... all the same ;)
What do they say? "Great minds think alike", I was just on-line searching for that very part.
But I'll still check at Ikler and see how much to fill the groove and machine it since it will be a better repair, IMO.

Good eye, but then again, you already knew that I was putting in an SS powerglide.

used 'em for YEARS Jeff... just install the sleeve and be done with it
ask your machine shop guy... he'll agree with me ;)

What Johnny said. Used one (years ago) and didn't leak a drop afterwards. A simple and solid fix.
Philip Jul 19th, 09, 09:38 PM Another flat rate trick is to install the seal a little shallow so it rides on a good part of the hub. Sleeves had not been invented yet in the "old" days :D
A new balancer or a weld repair (if the elastomer is still good) are the best ways to proceed.
stroud6 Jul 20th, 09, 07:09 AM I think I saw 572 badges on the front quarters. Now that would be a secret weapon and a real heart breaker. mark
Sreavis007 Jul 20th, 09, 08:56 AM Looking excellent!!
patman Jul 20th, 09, 06:09 PM I think I saw 572 badges on the front quarters.
Naaw...ya missed the decimal point. Those are .572 badges! ;);)
NIGHTSHADE Aug 5th, 09, 10:41 PM Talk about horse power, well if your gonna then go and do it somewhere else. Because there isn't much of it here!!!;):D
Got a good few days in on the "beast" with a little progress.

The old crappy valve cover is still on for the chain to rub against.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/nightshade63/Secret%20weapon/DSC02524-1.jpg
Wasn't as easy as you might think to get it in, lots of room to the sides, but as tight at the firewall as a V8 only without a distributer in the way.

Can you stand (comfortably) next to your engine??

SHIFTY4 Aug 5th, 09, 10:48 PM Lookin' Great Jeff !!!

Big Dave Aug 6th, 09, 12:00 PM Looking Good Mike! Couldn't but help notice a lack of fresh paint on your valve cover. Are you gong to have it polished and then hard chromed?
Big Dave
SS 396 Aug 6th, 09, 02:48 PM Glad to see the progress Jeff, you will be Driving it soon.

Who's Mike?
Anyway, used the original cover so the chain wouldn't scratch the new one. It will have an aluminum valve cover to match the inspection cover.
higleyml Aug 6th, 09, 03:24 PM Who's Mike?
