View Full Version : New forum under the MECHANICAL section
ovrdrive Jul 2nd, 09, 09:55 AM MODS and other memebers of Team Nova,
for the longest time I have wanted to add fuel injection to my car and was wondering if we could add a section under the MECHANICAL section that could be used as a show case, installation occurences/problems, gained hp and mpg, and troubleshooting of all versions of fuel injection. ( Holley Pro-Jection, Edelbrock multi port, TPI, FAST fuel injection, Hilborn and so on..)
What do you guys think??
Big Dave Jul 2nd, 09, 10:36 AM Well for openers it shoulbe amount of lost horse power with EFI not gained. In every dyno test I have ever heard of a carb makes more peak power every time (it is 120 year old technology that has been prety well optimized). Where EFI shiines is in average horse power (carbs aren't very efficient in the mid ranges), and easy of starting. The only justification I can see to run EFI is the ability to burn pump gas at an optimal tune.

Not trying to divert members but there is a very good forum on mfi/efi and all sorts of interesting stuff on www.hre.com (http://www.hre.com) some forums are closed but membership is just $40.00a year i have my $$ worth in just a couple of replies and there are a ton of very experienced racers and business on there
Good Luck
ovrdrive Jul 2nd, 09, 03:36 PM Dave,
I am NOT saying that EFI is better than a normal carb and nor do I want to start a Vendor bashing. I was just saying that another folder underneath the mechanical section of this site just for discussing the different types of injection and from testimonials from those who have fuel injection on their cars... Thats all.

Big Dave Jul 2nd, 09, 04:08 PM I don't want to start any arguments either, and so far as vendor bashing goes you have to mention a product for it to be considered vendor bashing. You can state generalities and opinions 'til one of the other mods with the power to lock a thread gets tired of reading the same statements being repeated over again and again (we have to read every word typed looking for problems, porn and other issues that violate the rules; gets to be kind of like grading kids term papers after a while it all blends together).
I support you in this as I think a separate issue for EFI would be helpful as we old schoolers are going to be drug into the 21 century sooner or later whether we like it or not, and information sharing is all good. I have no personal experience with EFI as I have never used it on any of my cars. I have installed and looked at several different vendors as well as Chevy's contributions. My next build (a 565 or 540 haven't finalized it yet)could be EFI but there isn't anything out there that I would consider as good as a carb from a performance perspective, and I am torn between building another high compression motor to run E-85 or straight alcohol (that has potential for a number of headaches as there is no E-85 available in Florida), or a true pump gas motor and just accept less power (I will still be making close to 700 horse either way but I haven't learned my lesson yet; well I sorta have but I still want more from an instinctual irresistible urge that I find difficult to control).

Philip Jul 2nd, 09, 06:41 PM Click here (http://www.camaros.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=70), at least it is still in the family and what works for the Camaro will work for our Novas. The problem as I see it now is that there are not enough Team Nova members with the experience in fuel injection to support the tech needed in another forum. Since the Team Camaro site already has one going with a searchable history all the questions you have or answers you seek can be handled there.
ovrdrive Jul 2nd, 09, 06:50 PM Philip, you took the words right out of my mouth. I was looking at that site earlier and thought that it would be helpfull to us Nova guys but, having the link available would even better. They did all the leg work and we can get the info from them.
Would it be possible for Team Nova members be a part of Team Camaro without creating another ID and log-on?
