Hello all. I just bought a 1968 True SS Nova today. I was told that the car originally had a 396 in it. Is there any way without the build sheets to tell what engine and transmission was included in the car? Also, what would one think this car would roughly be worth. Has al ot of surface rust, but am having it blasted next week. I am new to this whole scene, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

First visit to the site and show up with the rarest of the BB Novas....

or...maybe not

you need to post some pics of the car so we can see what it looks like...hopefully it isn't completely stripped down. There is lots of info here to help you, but you will have to give us a little more to go on.

Wilma,
Thanks for the response. I will take some pics of the car tomorrow when I go to my fathers. Is there any pics in particular that would be needed? Also, I forgot to mention the engine and transmission are gone out of the car.

How many bolts on the rear end cover? If 12 find and post the numbers stamped into the passenger side axle tube, they will be on the front side.

Welcome to the Team!

While you are restoring the car you may get lucky and find a build sheet. It is a set of printed instructions given to every assembly line worker that tells them which car gets which piece of optional equipment (RPO). If your car was heavily optioned there may be several to be found such as a build sheet behind the door panel if you got a custom beluxe interior, or under the console if so equipped, or up inside the dash if you got a stero FM radio or an eight track tape player, on top of the headliner if you got the map reading dome light option (found in cop cars), under the spare tire if it came with a space saver instead of a full size spare, on top of the gas tank if you got a 12 bolt rear end; etc. The build sheet was trash and was supposed to be thrown away after the car went by his station, but many workers left them in the car rather than walk over to the trash can if it could be hidden out of sight.

A bench seat with a BBC isn't a good sign as they came with the SS option that included bucket seats. But you never know. The customer could have special ordered the car from his dealer (known as a COPO) any way he wanted if the front office agreed to build it.

i'd say it's worth $1200.00

isn't that what you said you paid for it ? if you did and i said it was worth 50 bucks that'd be a bit of an insult, wouldn't it ?

[edit] and just to clarify, i'm not saying i think it's worth 50 bucks. just stating that if you payed "X" then it should be worth that to you, right? [end edit]

once ya throw 10-15-20 grand at it i'm sure it'll be worth a considerable amount higher than what you paid for it. from the looks of it it's going to take a lot of time & money to bring it back.

i wish ya luck with it ;)
