Thanks, Shifty4, for the edelbrock video link...

Trying to get more of a handle a flooding problem- After a driving the car at normal temp, it'll start again after 30 seconds but not after 5 minutes- flooded. I'm going to take the top of the carb off and check out the floats for debris, damage, etc. What about vapor lock? Could I be getting to much hot fuel? AND-most importantly--- If the car is flooded, what can be done to start it besides waiting. Or am I just sitting there for a while?

:sad::confused::mad:

Thanks- Rich

Hey you're welcome for the link... as far as vapor lock, where and how close is the fuel line to a heat source ? you could try insulating it if it's real-real close or you could make up a new line and re-route it. make sure it's not a starter heat-sink issue too... it is turning over OK, right ? or when its warm does the starter kinda drag ?

Yep, turns over great-- I'll look to see if the fuel line shifted some. Otherwise take a look at the floats? And how to start if it is flooded? Or just wait...

if the float level is too high they'll need to be adjusted, if there's debris in the carb it could be holding open the needle/seats. i'd pull the top and check all. it's real easy to do too so don't sweat that. just be careful you don't tear the gasket. once all the screws are out just pop/crack the side of the top with a screwdriver handle to pop it loose. don't over tighten the screws on reassembly, they're little buggers ;)

OK, thanks- Sounds like even I can do it- BUT- Can I get the motor started without waiting?

hold it to the floor, no pumping of pedal... you do run the risk of fouling the plugs you know...

check all the Eddy tech videos and written tech... lots of helpful info. they'll guide you through the process of popping the carb top and adjustment etc ;)

Hold it to the floor while cranking or off? :confused:
Signed, the new guy.

yeah, hold it to the floor while cranking. if you stop cranking but plan on hitting it again, don't move your foot, keep it WOT (floored)

Finally gave up trying the carb work myself, nothing helped. I got frustrated and took it to my trusted shop down the street. I told them I needed carb help. They put a new coil on. Runs better than ever.

I'm an enthusiastic knucklehead, but I'm learning. Thanks for the advice.....
