Anyone put in a Vintage Air kit into a 70 Nova, what and how hard was the install? What "hidden" problems came up if any?

Ron: Apparently no one has on this site. Try stevesnovasite.com with your question. I don't subscribe to them but occassionally check them out. Somebody has to have installed one...

Good Luck

Just in my opinion telling someone to go to another Nova site is just down right rude to the owner of this site and I think it shouldn't be allowed, Especially when that other site is so full of wannabe god Moderators and think they are know it alls but they are nothing but little bitches...

David the sites both have good info but different attitudes. If a person did a Google search for something Nova related both site links will come up. It boils down to where someone might feel most comfortable and that is a decision they have to make for themselves. Bob was just trying to be helpful. Team Nova can stand on it's own merits so no need to be worried.

I'm not worried Philip It just gets uder my skin sometimes...

If someone came into my shop and asked a question and someone told him to goto the shop up the street that would make me blow my top especially when the shop up the street is run by a well I don't want to make anyone made so I'll shut up now:eek:

Hi Ron, i'm not familiar with the 3rd genner cars but i am helping on the installation in a '67. so far we've had no issues. the A/C box is installed under the dash, the upper distribution vents are installed as is the condenser, compressor and lines. we still need to hook up the controls but i see no issues with that.

so... so far we've had no snags, just followed the instructions and installed it ;)

i hope i helped and sorry for the hijacking of your thread

Thanks Shifty4! On the vents, mine does not have A/C, and I do need a new dash pad, so would I order the A/C one correct?

i haven't researched your application so i can't say for sure but i'd assume so.

take a look here and see what they show, also a quick e mail to their tech department might be of help too ;)

Ron you would need more than the pad with the vents. Behind the dash all the factory plastic ducting will need to be purchased and hooked up. It might be better to get a kit designed for the non AC application, it will include vent outlets and hose. The control assembly is also different between AC and non AC cars and some kits will use the stock controls you have. Do some research before ordering. I would also suggest to do the complete set up with heater and remove the stock one. It will be a cleaner install and fit under the dash better.

Cool, I will have to get the universal anyways, they do not show one for a 70 Nova as a direct fit kit.

Ron...I just ordered the Vintage Air Gen IV universal for my 68. I haven't ordered the complete kit yet as I just need the main unit for mock up. When you order the kit, it will come with new ductwork and vents. You need to decide what type of vents you want to use. You can get one style that is a rectangular shaped one and bolts under the dash. Personally I don't like the look of it. I'm putting in a custom console so will be putting a couple vents in the side of the console and then I still need to figure out where I want to put the two on the outside. You can also order different controls also. I've ordered the electronic controls that is basically three dials so not be putting it in the stock location. You will want to order a kit for a non A/C car. I've seen some guys cut up their dash pads to try and install like a factory car so that's an option also. Here's a couple links from VA that shows the different types of vents you can get: http://www.vintageair.com/08/catalog08/08%20VA%20cat%20pg%2029%20f.pdf

I would suggest giving Frank at www.gpsuperstore.com (http://www.gpsuperstore.com) a call. He's a Vintage Air dealer and has some packages that he puts together that includes everything that you will need for you install. That's who I ordered mine from. He'll spend the time with you to make sure you're getting the proper kit and accessories for your set up. I'm hoping to have the main unit and controls this week as I need them for mock up. I haven't decided yet on vents so will wait to order the rest of the kit. Watch my build thread over the next while and I'll update when I mock up the Gen IV unit. Hope this helps.
