About 125 miles ago I had a 700R4 trans installed. I had installed a full set of Autometer gauges just prior to the trans. Last night prior to taking the wife for a ride, I noticed trans fluid leaking out of the the face of the speedo. Could this just be a bad speedo cable or could the gauge also be faulty? Thanks in advance, Scott.

Bad O-ring in the tranny is the secondary defense line that failed. Did you install the drive gear with an oil slinger (primary line of defence in keeping oil out of the cable) when you put the speedometer gears in the tranny?

I had the trans installed. I'll call the trans shop tomorrow and find out about the o-ring.

Not supposed to be any oil in the speedo cable (it is lubed with graphite dust which is pretty soggy now). The slinger throws off 90% of the oil thrown off by the output shaft, and the O-ring seals off the rest. Without the slinger it will quickly over whelm the O-ring.
