Did you check you carb, it sounds like the choke is stuck from sitting ;)
poorman72 Mar 18th, 09, 05:08 AM Joe, I think it is probably your carb accelerator pump has dried out. It will need to be taken apart and cleaned. Then put a new carb kit in. Check by taking the air cleaner off. Then with the motor not running, look down the top of the carb, open your trottle by hand and see if your accelerator pump is squirting. If little or no fuel squirts, thats your problem. Hope this helps.
jlop3s91 Mar 18th, 09, 05:44 PM u knw wat that might actuallly be it because i got an old carb and have never got around to rebuilding and ....today i started up and let it just run for alittle and i noticed it was running alittle lean ...could this carb situation that you explained be the reason for both problems? thanks
PDQ 71 Mar 20th, 09, 10:44 PM Yes Joe, the carb problem could cause the stalling out problem when you put it in gear.
jlop3s91 Mar 24th, 09, 09:36 PM hey guys looks like everyone was right with the carb ...i looked at it and realized that only 2 of the four barrels where opening ...the metal lever that opens the back two barrels was not hooked up ....im goin to rebuild it and then go from there
PDQ 71 Mar 25th, 09, 05:22 PM You'll probably be very happy when you get the carb rebuilt and repaired!
SHIFTY4 Mar 25th, 09, 05:32 PM i wasn't sure if it was a Sixer or a V8... a 1bbl, 2bbl or 4bbl carb until i read the post further down... if it's a six cylinder there will be only the one butterfly opening in the carb... but it's sounds in a later post it's a 4bbl.
what size engine and what carb is on the car ?
SHIFTY4 Mar 25th, 09, 05:37 PM regarding my post up above ^^^

jlop3s91 Jul 6th, 09, 05:14 PM its a six cyclinder with a holley four barrel......i put a new head on it aluminum intake and four barrel lol
rancidguy Jul 10th, 09, 07:18 AM How is the car running now that you put that 4-barrel in? My '78 only has a single barrel carb, so it doesn't take hills very well lol
jlop3s91 Jul 14th, 09, 07:40 PM when i first put the 4 brl in about 3 yrs ago it was sweet but the cars been sitting every since because of having no time .........now i got a lot of un finished work to do
