Only took me 30 years!

Anyway, it was a hot evening. Street legal night with a headwind. I was hoping to get into the 10 teens, but figured the heat would keep me away from the 10 oh range.

Previous best was a 10.04 @ 133 on a much cooler evening.

Wrong!

First pass, it runs a 9.991 @ 132.53
6.30 @ 107.44 in the 1/8 mile.
1.39 60 ft time.

And the tower noticed. So I got the official NHRA warning ticket, and was done for the night.

Time to get a license and have the cage certified.

Congratulations to you and boy I would like to do that. My goal is to go faster than a stock appearing car should go. At 13.3 now looking for mid 12's this year. Hope it doesn't take me 30 years. Got any pics on the web?

Ron being quick is great but it looks like a mixed blessing considering the new requirements. Must have been hard being done for the night after that time slip. Git r done and post a time when you are not running into a headwind. Think maybe into 9.70's with the right conditions?

Ron, saw you post over at Chevelles. Must feel good. Not very many guys driving their 9 sec car to and from the strip. Pretty elite crowd there.

Here's a video link compliments of Repointer ---> http://media.putfile.com/Rons-best-run

This is a 10.04 run.

Congrats again Ron, the total package you've got there with the pump gas, little tires, and the fact that you don't own a trailer is friggin amazing!

Congrats and welcome to the single digit et club. Just be sure you follow those safety requirements to the "T". They get very picky when you're running that fast. The coolest part of all of this, is this is a street driven car.

Thanks!
I'm in the process of getting certified and licensed. I just hope the cage passes, otherwise I'll be done for awhile.

I'm still stunned that the suspension upgrades have worked so well. I'd have never thought I could go 1.37 60ft on 9" tires......much less run a 9.91 on a hot day.

I bet the car has 9.70's in it.

30 years from now you will regret parting out a 26k mile 74 Nova.

Number one thank you for pointing this out...It's a '73, the '74 was a typo.

Number two, I still don't know what I'm doing with that car. My dad surprised me with that, but it was supposed to be '70. When we went to pick it up it was a '73, but I still didn't care. I was going to do a '70 nose swap and possibly a tail panel swap. A few weeks later, I got a phone call from a buddy, and I ended up with a '71. OF COURSE I'd rather build a '71, however I don't know what I'm going to do with the '73. I need ALOT of parts off it for my '71. I would buy the parts new, but when you're 15 and you're trying to build a Nova, finding the time between school days to physically work on the car and make money somewhere in between isn't all that easy. Luckily I'm on summer vacation, so some days I work to make money, and some days I work on the car. I haven't gone one day yet (during this vacation) without working, whether it's on the car or for money. I know, it's starting already :D. Woah this is a long post...sorry for off topic/hi jacking :D

Congrats, must be awesome to get the single digit timeslip!

I remember the feeling when I first cracked off a 10 second pass. I'm a long way from 9's, and the added weight PITA of the cage will likely keep me from doing it N/A for a while. I'll likely pill up the spray and see if we can get it next year SBC powered!

Good air should have you in the high 9.60's I'd think! Good luck the rets of the year!

Congrats on the new best. Does that mean you can't race out there anymore until you get certified?

I'm closing in on the 11's fast. A few more things and I'll be there. Then I guess 10's and more safety equipment are next.:clonk:

Thanks Derek,
I remember my first ten with the Nova as well. I t took air that was 600ft below seal level! A rare and short lived occurence here....lasted less than an hour.
The first nine took 6 more years and a new bigger engine.
I doubt the car has any 9.60's in it. Maybe....a 9.7999, but will also take GREAT air. And you have to be there in that night.
We had warm temps, but hight baro and low humidity. So the air wasn't too shabby. I don't have a DA gauge.
Keep truckin! When you get to be old like me, and the house payments drop...it leaves more money for lower ET's!
