I'm looking at my new project 68 camaro ex drag car. It has a 12 bolt rear in it with posi and i was told 4.56 gears. Its in good working order, no crazy noises. Any idea what its worth?

I know of a junkyard nearby that i can grab the 8.5 rear out of a nova for it for cheap. If the 12 bolt is worth a bit it might free up money to put into the car elsewhere. Thanks

You might get the numbers off the diff and verify that it is a 68 12 bolt,They will bring $1300 to $1500 in my area pretty easy. You sure you want to get rid of it?

Yeah I agree with that price, but i think in this area $850 without knowing what else is inside, spool, manufacture of axels, c-clips?????? If all is intalled as mentioned $1500 would be a fair price.

I ran the casting numbers on the diff. It came up as 67-69 camaro casting. Not sure if i will keep it or not. The car will be more of a driver than a strip car so the 12 bolt may be overkill for what i will be doing. Then again an Ls2, 6speed and 4.56 would be real fun. lol

If you do end up selling it,get the numbers off the diff and decode it. If someone is building a numbers car and needs that specific coded diff it is worth alot of money to the buyer. I only have 1 12 bolt left and it is a 68 camaro also, It has all new parts and ready to go,I have turned down 2k for it from a guy needing it for a numbers matching car.

So it has a 3894860 casting number? Get the rest of the numbers off the axle tube also. Depending on what it was originally, that could be a good selling point.

I bought an empty 12 bolt housing out of a 1970 Chevelle and I have been offered $1750 for it once as the guy wanted the date code for a SS he was rebuilding. Should have let it go then but wanted it for another project I have since abandoned. Value is in the eye of the buyer.

Pay close attention to the code on the axle tube (passenger side on front). Depending on whats its out of (and the code will tell) it could be worth a lot
The average 12 bolt from a 68-74 Nova or 67-69 Camaro goes for $750-$1500 (some even more due to code) depending or gears, posi or not,and what shape its in.

:thumbsup:Thats the casting number on it brian. i'll have to get it in garage to check axle codes as the snow is falling here. I'll pull the cover and see what is in there a far as posi and gears. Thanks a bunch for all the replies. Team Nova is the best because of all the great help!!!!:beers::beers:
