View Full Version : I need a Crossmember for a Power Glide for 68 KellyBurns Jun 4th, 06, 02:41 AM I'm looking cross member to work with a Power Glide in my 68, what do you have you wanna sell? Philip Jun 4th, 06, 02:47 AM Kelly you can get one from our site sponser, link in the upper right corner. 68 - 72 (maybe all the way to 74) with Powerglide, th350 and 4 speed use the same cross member. It shouldn't be to hard to find one, TKO conversions using the kits came with new crossmembers. In the future you will need to put the for sale/wanted ads in the classifieds, it is free and easy. Tommy Jun 4th, 06, 09:37 AM That should be an easy part to find at any junkyard. any of the 68-74 Novas as well as the 67-69 Camaros used that crossmember and I believe the early Omegas, Apollos, and Venturas used it as well. It's probably A 10-15 dollar item at the local treasure hunters paradise.....http://www.novas.net/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif Tommyhttp://www.novas.net/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif SS 396 Jun 4th, 06, 04:17 PM Tommy, You are Lucky if there are still Nova's in the Junkyards where you are at.I need to come there for a Visit. Joe Tommy Jun 4th, 06, 05:32 PM I was recently at A yard at the Alabama/Mississippi Line that had 5 or 6 3rd gen Novas and A couple of 1st gen Camaros out in the mix and A friend called me last week about A yard close by that he walked for some parts that had almost A dozen 3rd genshttp://www.novas.net/forums/images/icons/icon6.gif. We still have A few around here. I bought all the seat belts out of A blue four door 68 not long ago for 25 bucks. The ony thing messing us up around here is that mean ol mobile car crusher thingy that I see from time to time. http://www.novas.net/forums/images/icons/icon11.gif Tommy http://www.novas.net/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif big gear head Jun 4th, 06, 09:35 PM I have 2 cross members for small block cars. Let me know if you can't find one. KellyBurns Jun 5th, 06, 01:45 PM What do you want for one of them? I would think that its specific to the trans not the engine (big vs. small)...So I would think what you have will work for me. big gear head Jun 5th, 06, 06:55 PM How about $25 plus shipping? This is the same cross member that was used in small block cars with the TH350, Powerglide and 4 speed. The big block cars had a different cross member. KellyBurns Jun 6th, 06, 08:39 AM Let me do some more investigating. I talked to a guy at a place called Tamaz (sp?) and he says that I have to have the one specifically for a BB and 'Glide. I'm so lost on this one! 69NovaSS Jun 6th, 06, 09:05 AM Is your car a BB car? The only real difference between the SB crossmember and the BB crossmember is that the BB one is offset towards the passenger side slightly...you can just redrill the rear tranny mount bolts holes in the crossmember and that will allow the SB version to work with a BB car...if ya get what I mean KellyBurns Jun 6th, 06, 12:07 PM It seems that I would have to drill all the holes to slide the crossmember towards the passenger side? I'm not oposed to drill the small block one, my biggest concern is the mesurement to move it...? 69NovaSS Jun 6th, 06, 12:17 PM It seems that I would have to drill all the holes to slide the crossmember towards the passenger side? No that is not quite right...all you need to do is redrill or elongate(sp?) the holes in the crossmember for the actual tranny mount...then you can offset the tranny mount itself towards the passenger side....the only thing offset on the factory BB crossmember is the tranny mount NOT the crossmember itself...Kapish:) 69NovaSS Jun 6th, 06, 12:21 PM I'm not oposed to drill the small block one, my biggest concern is the mesurement to move it...? IF you car has BB frame mounts then with the motor mounted and sitting in the chassis straight it should be offset towards the passenger side of of the car the with the tranny bolted to the motor BUT not bolted the tranny mount it too should be offset towards the passenger side of the car...where ever the tranny wants to hit the cross member will be roughly where you want to drill it...it should be self explainitory when you see the parts together where you will want to drill it... good luck :) KellyBurns Jun 6th, 06, 04:33 PM OK, that makes sense to me. I gotta game plan from that. SO! OK, I will buy your small block crossmember big gear head. I messaged you my e-mail and phone number.
