I'm getting to the 'fill it up' stage, just curious if anyone has any good suggestions for antifreeze type/brand/etc. I have aluminum heads, water pump, and radiator too...wondering if that makes any difference. Also...are there any that are not poisonous? I'd rather not have to worry so much about the dogs getting into it in case there's a leak.

All are toxic if consumed. The eco friendly stuff is easier on the biosphere if spilled in an accident as it breaks down faster. All brands are compatible with aluminum. I use Prestone 50/50 mix because I then have a container to dispose of the old antifreeze (classified as hazardous waste so it has to go to the solid waste collection facility in your area to be burned in the incinerator).
Biggest issue is keep track of the date placed in service. It must be changed again two years later, no if's or buts about it, as it will turn acidic and eat your aluminum if you do not.

You are using antifreeze properly when you dilute straight antifreeze with distilled water. However all antifreeze oxidizes with time. It is the aging part that makes it become acidic. If you do not replace it every two years your aluminum parts will look like Mammoth Cave with cavities and pieces hanging off of it.
I use 50/50 because I am lazy and want to get rid of the old antifreeze which can not be poured down the sink (that just dilutes it not make it go away), with a 50/50 mix the old goes back into the jug that I bought with the new antifreeze.
It is classified as a hazardous household waste (as opposed to industrial waste were you pay to get rid if it out of your pocket). As such every community has a recycling and/or collection place designated to take it to. (I think the corner auto store is also obligated to get rid of it if you buy new antifreeze from them, but it has to be in leak proof plastic jugs to transport).
