This auction states that this is a spark control switch.

It sure looks like an oil pressure sender to me. But hey, I could be wrong....

if my eyes can see through the fuzziness of that picture it's a multi terminal switch. Chevy Vegas used a similar switch... if the oil pressure drops to a certain level the spark is stopped...

probably a lousy explanation. :rolleyes:

looks like a 3 post oil pressure switch. Operates oil light and electric fuel pump.

I had a switch like you are describing on a 76 Chevy V-8 Monza. Wanted a real oil presure guage instead of idiot light. Car woulndt start. Took me 3 day to figure that one out :yes:

Yep. I was right.

When I am driving my car wide open I am usually preoccupied with keeping it going straight, so I use a $16 dollar switch sold by Holley that kills the ignition if my oil pressure ever drops below 5 psi. I would rather have to pull over and have a gauge tell me I have a problem than miss it and buy a new motor.
