I have a small block 500hp, turbo 350 trans, 2500 stall converter, ford 9", 26" tall rear tires and a 4:30 ratio. It is spinnin' too many rpm crusin.
What gears do you think I should use? I am thinking about a 3:73 to be able to cruise and still drag race??????????? Thanks

Since you are crusin; I would recomend a built 700R4 trans instead of the TH350. The 700R4 shares many internal parts with the TH350 and can now be built to be just as strong. The beter gearing and a lock up converter in OD will cure your high RPM worries.

Yea, but the trans is new and I just want to swap gears and still be able to run the 1/8 mile at the drag strip. Just dont want to turn 4000rpm on the highway at 60mph! Thanks

The 3.50 would probably be better if you are doing any highway driving. If you just stay in town then the 3.70 would be all right. A taller tire would also be good. What other parts do you have in the 9 inch?

i went from a 4.11 to 3.55's and ive never been happier..with a th350 it still pulls real good and smokes the tires but also hums on the highway..
or you could buy a gearvenders overdrive unit they handle up to 1000 hp

Thanks. A 26" tire is the biggest that will fit. My nine inch has 31 spline axles and 11 incn disc brakes.

Would you be interested in a nodular case, Daytona pinion housing, 31 spline Detroit Locker and 3.70 gears set up and ready to install? Send me an email if you are.

I'm using 3.73's and the car has seen plenty of highway miles. I'd prefer to run 3.55 gears probably and give up a tenth or so in ET but the 3.73 is the smallest # gear you can get for a 12-bolt with a spool.
