View Full Version : Thoughts on Coys C5 Rims rporzio Nov 30th, 08, 06:11 PM Does anyone have any thoughts on Coys C5 rims on the 71 Nova's? 40buickcoupe Nov 30th, 08, 07:06 PM I have been looking for rims and looked at the Coys Im not sold on the quality I ended up buying Billit Specialities. Novanutcase Nov 30th, 08, 07:20 PM I have some Coys on my '61 T-Bird and they are fine for the price. If you like the look and it's a cruiser they're fine! John 40buickcoupe Dec 1st, 08, 12:02 PM No doubt the price is right wish most wheels were priced like that strtlegal Dec 3rd, 08, 12:38 AM i honestly think there quality is better then american racing...prompt service and price you caint pass up.. nothing like a billet piece but nicely done.. i just ordered some 20" c-5 coys in gun metal, nice finish, color was perfect even had a fat lip..all four $1200.00 to my door PDQ 71 Dec 3rd, 08, 12:57 AM Ok everyone has their own tastes, likes, dislikes etc. I won't tell you how to dress your car if you don't tell me how to dress mine, but I have to say, I just can't for the life of me understand why these HUGE Wheels that are bigger than the cars practically are so popular. I think they totally take away from the whole concept of "THE CAR". These cars were designed with Wheel Wells for 14" and 15" tires/wheels and theres nothing better than a set of Cragars, or Welds, Centerlines or something reasonable, but man to put those HONKIN' huge 20"/22" wheels on these classic cars to me it just takes away from the beauty in the lines of the cars, and it's not about "THE CAR" anymore it's all about "THE WHEELS", like how big can I GO???? 17" is about as big as I would ever go personally on an older car. LOLOLOL The newer cars are designed differently so some of them don't look too bad with the 20" wheels but a classic muscle car, I just can't see it. Sorry but you asked for thoughts, so I gave you mine! LOL  Novanutcase Dec 3rd, 08, 10:42 PM Ok everyone has their own tastes, likes, dislikes etc. I won't tell you how to dress your car if you don't tell me how to dress mine, but I have to say, I just can't for the life of me understand why these HUGE Wheels that are bigger than the cars practically are so popular. Sorry but you asked for thoughts, so I gave you mine! LOL  I think the difference is when you get 22's and raise the car effectively making it a DONK versus running a set of 20's and dropping the car so that the wheels tuck into the fenders. Obviously, these cars weren't built for wheels like that but that's what tubs are for! LOL! I personally like a nice size wheel. It fills out the wheel well real nice. Sure you can run a 14" wheel with some huge hoosiers but then you're going with more of a pro-street look. I think the big wheels are more a pro-touring thing. Big wheels lend themselves more to the street than huge tires, IMO! John PDQ 71 Dec 3rd, 08, 10:49 PM I think you're right John, I think they probably wouldn't look too bad if folks would adjust the car to the wheels, but I like the way you put it, when you just throw those BIG WHEELS on cars/trucks that are not meant for them they look like a DONK! Bugs the crap out of me when I see a nice looking Chevy Silverado Pickup with those HUGE 24" DONK wheels on it...............:clonk: strtlegal Dec 3rd, 08, 11:37 PM i had to go bigger to clear my brake rotors, letting my car drive down the highway safe is alot better than doing a pointless burn out with a 3 spd and 4:10 gearing. this will get old eventually, i personally caint stand seeing weld rims that have been used in cars for the past 20 years, i used to love them, but the comfort of having a 4" front rim in my opinion was dumb.. i think another key is we actually have wheel options back then it was 15's or nothing. do you think welds look good on a big car like an oldsmobile wildcat, no but with the right stance the cars can look good with some bigger wheels. your right some people go way over board. i personally hate having the look of a drag car and getting beat by a honda civic, so backing off the car in the motor and making it more of an enjoyable all around driver was my priority. i have noticed that making my car more of a daily driver has been alot harder because of the corners that i cut thinking i wouldn't use this or that. like a heater core a/c etc..lol not hating just my outlook, i see junk everyday so trust me i know exactly where your coming from! PDQ 71 Dec 4th, 08, 09:26 PM You bring up some good points here. Good Exchange of ideas. I'm sure the Coy's will look GREAT if that's what you liked! Enjoy the ride that's the most important thing! Big Dave Dec 4th, 08, 09:44 PM Well they are cheaper than Buds from Alcoa, and the same size too; I wonder how they would look on the front of a Peterbuilt? Big Dave Novanutcase Dec 4th, 08, 10:01 PM Well they are cheaper than Buds from Alcoa, and the same size too; I wonder how they would look on the front of a Peterbuilt? Big Dave SSSSHHHH!!!! Big Dave About 4 1/2 inches short!!! l:) Ponder Jan 21st, 09, 10:39 PM My wife's monte... I got the American Racing wheels too cheap or else I would have gone for the Coy's!!! http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n319/wsprohopper/70low.jpg Ponder Jan 21st, 09, 10:43 PM My '63 Impala. Also would have chosen the Coy's, But got a smokin' deal on the Boyd's. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n319/wsprohopper/63imp.jpg Novanutcase Jan 22nd, 09, 08:47 PM Coy's on the Bird! http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/novanutcase/T-BirdFa-1.jpg John SHIFTY4 Jan 22nd, 09, 08:50 PM SURELY that's not the "Rustoleum" car is it John ? Novanutcase Jan 22nd, 09, 08:53 PM SURELY that's not the "Rustoleum" car is it John ? LOL! Yes it is but I'll have to let you in on my little secret! After my friend(Paint and Body guy) had buffed the car he told me that he was pretty amazed at how it looked for what it was but when he saw the Coys wheels and all the other stuff I was going to do to the Bird he got so disgusted and told me that he would repaint it at his cost! LOL! He kept nagging me about why I had wasted all that time doing the $50 paint job if I was going to do all that stuff to the Bird. I told him it was just for the experience. He still laughs about that one! LOL! He couldn't bear to see it with nice shiny wheels and stuff and have that paint job on it so I drove it for a few months and then let him repaint it.:o We did a single stage paint job! I thought it came out pretty good! Since I did single stage I don't have to worry about the clear coat yellowing from the sun eventually. Also, good if I get a rock chip. Easy fix. John SHIFTY4 Jan 22nd, 09, 08:55 PM OOOOH, OK... 'cause i was just about ta run out and buy some paint & rollers !!! that looks great John  Novanutcase Jan 22nd, 09, 09:00 PM OOOOH, OK... 'cause i was just about ta run out and buy some paint & rollers !!! that looks great John  Honestly, from far away the rustoleum paint job didn't look all that much worse. The secret is really in the buffing. John SHIFTY4 Jan 22nd, 09, 09:05 PM i'm gonna hook OL'Dave up with some rollers then... he needs the excercise :D David_H Jan 22nd, 09, 09:11 PM I have a Question doesn't the car ride ruff with out a lot of rubber under it? Novanutcase Jan 23rd, 09, 12:54 AM I have a Question doesn't the car ride ruff with out a lot of rubber under it? Depends on your definition of "ruff"! I think going beyond 40 series tires it will become noticeably rougher but then again I DD the Mustang and it has 350# springs on the rear so ANYTHING else I ride in feels like a cadillac! John |
