View Full Version : Park Brake Light Stays On russ72 Oct 30th, 08, 09:24 AM I have a 72 Nova, my parking brake light stays on even though the brake is not engaged. Help Chevyboy454 Oct 30th, 08, 09:38 AM Check the black wire coming reom you emergency brake assembly, possible it shorted out. Also check the brake res for a single wire (not sure if your Nova had this or not) the single wire is a fluid level low indicator. If you unplug it and the light goes out and the fluid is full. suspect a faulty level sensor. If it does not go out suspect a short to ground somewhere in the circuit. You can diagnose the brake assembly the same way. Hope this helps. Cheers Chevyboy454. russ72 Oct 30th, 08, 10:12 AM Thanks I'll try that 1slow64 Oct 30th, 08, 11:02 AM check that the sensor on the park brake lever is not sticking. Big Dave Oct 30th, 08, 12:05 PM If your master cylinder plunger goes over center (one system holding more line pressure than the other) the brake light will illuminate. Big Dave SHIFTY4 Oct 30th, 08, 03:32 PM maybe the brake light switch needs adjusting... ;) Philip Oct 30th, 08, 09:02 PM Unplug the wire on the proportioning valve if the light goes out you have a brake problem. Both the proportioning valve and park brake share the warning light circuit. The circuit turns the light on by going to ground so if you have done any recent work in those two areas of the car make sure you did not damage or pinch the wire shorting it to ground. |
