We just finished a forum upgrade and there is one issue that affects some accounts.
IF your username and password were the same, you were sent a new password along with the email listed below.
It is legit and came from us. Basically, spammers could go through the list guessing at those who used the same password as their username and then logging in and posting spam.
This HAS NOT happened here on Team Nova but it has to other sites using this software.
Just fyi, 42 accounts were found that used this method. I encourage those affected to pick a tough password that is easy to remember and use it for anywhere you have an account, not just here. These weasels are trying this trick everywhere they can. :(

We have upgraded our forums today and there is a change that will affect your account.
Some passwords are vulnerable to exploitation which may allow a third party to hijack your account. These are accounts that use the same password as the username.
This may lead to your account being used without your knowledge or permission, and actions being performed under your name.
Vulnerable accounts can also be bad for the board as a whole as they may enable access for automated tools to spam both the forums and other user accounts,
using your username.
As such we have had to reset your password.
You can find your new login details below.
Username: this was not changed
Password: a new password was generated
If you want to change your password, login with the above details at the following location:
http://www.novas.net/forums/profile.php?do=editpassword
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.
Any problems or questions/suspicions just email admin@novas.net and we will personally assist you.
All the best,
Your friends at Team Nova
