View Full Version : Idle stumble
batman09 May 3rd, 06, 03:56 AM Like 65prostreet my car has been running like crap lately. It seems that When I'm stopped(in park and in drive) my idle is kinda stumbling.Kinda like a roller coaster.I think you guys know what I mean. This all started when I went from 2 breathers and went to 1 breather and 1 pcv valve.Any ideas?thanks bm
fuzzy5385 May 3rd, 06, 05:54 AM If it's surging you might check for a vacuum leak ....maybe with your new pcv valve.
Just an idea
RED67 May 3rd, 06, 10:55 AM batman,,after switching to a pcv system your carb is now experiencing a controlled vacumn leak,,controlled by the new pcv valve.:clonk: You may need to only readjust the idle mixture screws and reposition the throttle blades (reset the idle stop).
What brand of carb do you have ?
Hope this helps,RED67
NEVER FINISHED 64 May 3rd, 06, 11:12 AM To check for vacuum leaks you can spray around the base of the carbureator with starter fluid. If the engine speeds up its an idication that vacuum is sucking in the starter fluid at that point.
My Holley had leaks at the throttel blade bushing and at the back of the base plate, where the car would hardly idle. Replaced the base plate with a Proform and all is good now.

I did that already.No luck
DriveWFO May 3rd, 06, 04:32 PM Can you switch back to your previous configuration and see if the problem goes away?

I could but my breathers are all packed away and I don't know where they are??bm
DriveWFO May 3rd, 06, 05:26 PM Disconnect the PCV hose from the carb (or intake) and cover up the fitting with a rubber cap (or whatever you have laying around that will seal it). See if the car still acts up.
72GreenRally May 3rd, 06, 07:19 PM Bruce, maybe it is just feeling naughty, and needs a little discipline. http://climbatizeut.users.btopenworld.com/Bondage.gif  :D
When are you leaving for the Big Sky Country? If it is real soon, I would wait until you get there because you are going to have to re-tune for the much higher altitude.
Randy (my .02 cents, which is almost worthless!)
