I personally like two doors, but the only thing that matters is what you like, not what anyone else likes! So, if you like four doors, then thats what you should have

To each their own. If you're into 4 doors or wagons.... no problem here.
2 doors are too expensive for some and too small for others.
If it's done right... great !
Now when you smoke that guy in the other lane and he under estimated you and your 4-doors.... it all paid off.

Here's BSR's Wagon...

for some, the usage of the car might dictate a 4 door so that's that... but other than that, i'm not a big fan of them.

i've owned many, drove a few, junked a lot of them. for me in my past, most were used for part cars...

it's all a matter of taste. i don't have to like anyones car to appreciate all the hard work and cash that can go into a project. it's all what the person who owns the car thinks that's important. i like mine and built it to suit me, no one else... if someone likes it, fine... if they don't... who cares ??? ;)

The two door has a higher value than a four door because people are willing to pay more for one. A four door can be made to go just as fast as a two door (Dyno Don Nickelson proved that with his "Tijuana Taxi" four door Maverick Pro Stocker). It has never been classified as a muscle car by any of the car mags (though they consider the LS-1 powered Impala SS to be a muscle car, and it is only available as a four door). So there are exceptions to the rule. You probably have one too, enjoy your ride!

2 things.

1st you asked for honest opinions so take it how you wish but don't get upset at the answers.

2nd I own a 4door.

It was said that 2 door cars are more expensive to buy. With that said, IMO a hot rodded 4door might scream "I was too cheap to spend the bucks on a 2 door". Might.

I think 4doors are cool if you want a nice classic cruiser or driver, do it up properly, make it look nice and have fun in style.

Put in a roll cage and tub it, back in the day you'd be called a Squirrel.

If you want a hot rod, part out a couple 4doors and save up for a 2 door. It's easy to do and you might not even feel bad about doing it.:p

A four door can be made to go just as fast as a two door (Dyno Don Nickelson proved that with his "Tijuana Taxi" four door Maverick Pro Stocker).

It was Gapp and Rousch with the Taxi...

The Tijuana Taxi (1975). The strangest Pro Stocker ever built, I think, is the Gapp & Roush Tijuana Taxi Maverick with four doors. This was the only Pro Stocker ever built in the United States with four doors, though in Australia it is not unusual. Back in the seventies the great minds at NHRA had different weight breaks for each setup. A short wheelbase car with a small block raced at a different weight than a long wheelbase car with a big block. With these rules in place and Pintos doing too good according to NHRA, they kept adding weight to them. It got to the point where many racers noticed you could save over 100 pounds if you had a long wheelbase car with a small block. There was not a long wheelbase two door Ford being made in 1975. Most racers who took advantage of the rule built 70 model Mustangs like Dyno Don and Bob Glidden. Wayne Gapp & Jack Roush built the wildest car yet – a four door Ford Maverick. Gapp’s driving and Roush’s tuning won several times in 1975. NHRA quickly wised up and leveled the rules and the long wheelbase advantage was gone. The Gapp & Roush team went on racing their unique car throughout the year after others had gone back to the small block Pintos and Mustang IIs. The car was sold in 1976 and was later totaled in a pit area crash.

any car that you build is the right car, i own a 4 door and when i get it restored i am hoping to have a sweet ride and something that the grandkids can ride in with there car seats, it will be less work to get them in the 4 door, then when the nova is done i can start on the 66 chevelle conv.

Sorry for the misinformation; I was working from my faulty memory. I knew it was a Ford and missed by attributing it to Dyno Don (rather famous Pro Stocker who championed Fords). It was indeed Gap and Rousch who made the four door Maverick fly, and Ford still attributes all of their "Hot" engine mods to Roush (such as their blown OHC mod engine in Mustangs now).

I've always thought a 4 door 3rd gen Nova done up as a cop car would be cool! Put a big block 427 in it, TH350 or TH400, Posi 3.73 rear gear, put the mesh divider in, but incorporate it in such a way as to be a legal role bar also. Do it all up with year correct police stuff. Then at the shows listen the the people talk about how it was a COPO or something made for the police only. lol

related story ^^^

i had a '66 Bel-Air, 4 door that screamed at me to tint the windows and stuff a BBC/4spd in it and make it look like an undercover narc car... i dunno why but from the first day i saw it i said that it looked like a cop car...

i recently sold it

I agree with Brian. It's all about what you want!
For me I picked a 2 door because I only wanted one other person in the car cruising with me. Like a hot girl or a hot rod buddy. If you want to load the car with 4 or 5 friends you
need a 4 door. In my 68 2 door after i put the seats i wanted in. and set them up for how i wanted to sit in MY car. the back seat became useless to any one over 4'5'' cant fit unless thy lay on the seat sideways. And thats not fun. Buy like Johnny said I built the car for me. To make me happy no one else.
Look at a pic of a 2 door and a 4 door side by side. You pick what you like. And what you are going to do with it. make it your own and don't care what any body else thinks.

I still like watching that old James Bond flick. Live and let die. To see all those 73 nova cop cars racing around. Just remember it's all about you

I only like 4 dr cars for a family vehicle. For a muscle car or race car it has to be a 2 dr. It probably comes from the fact that all of the muscle cars were sold as 2dr models as far as I know. Brain washing from the factory. A 2 dr just looks tougher to me as far as appearance.

On the other hand, I have seen some real sleeper 4 dr cars that would hand it to you on the track. I know of a couple of them right now that I wouldn't mess with. There are a couple of 4 dr wagons here that will smoke you in a heartbeat. One of my favorite wagons here in town is a 65 Chevelle 2dr with a 427 and a 5 spd.

Now that being said, it's all in what you want. Build it as you like it as you will be driving it and if you're like me you don't care what everyone else thinks.

If you are asking for my opinion of a 4 door car I think 3 things

1. Wifes car.

2. Daughters car.

3. Parts car.

In my opinion there is no cool 4 door muscle car.

Oh and as Jeff said a 4 door done properly could be a nice ride, maybe next time you will nail it eh Jeff:thumbsup::D:D

like most others the 2 door is cooler looking i think just because it's a little shorter, but I was checking out a 4 door 65 chevelle at the track the last time i was there i didn't even realize it had 4 doors until i walked up to it the guy had a 355 sbc with a vortech super charger on it and some weld drag lites I thought it looked pretty cool. For the most part i think they would make a great sleeper keep it bone stock looking and make it run fast

I believe it is all about about your choice. I have owned my more-door Nova for 10 years now. People gave me crap about it in high school but I feel like if you love your car, then forget what people say! If the car is done right it can look just as good as a 2 door. also make your car fast, people can't say much after you smoke 'em!

"It does'nt matter how many doors I have if I'm blowin yours off!"

Don't mind me as I poke in here>>

A 4 door is just that "A 4 Door". It's what you make of it that counts. I read a while back in one of the rags I get that there's some famous street racer fella in Cali somewhere that is makin another 4door street terror that is like one he has raced for years and taken many a guys CA$h!. The name escapes me but it doesn't matter. The fact is "it's what you make of it".

Your not going to make people like it. They will or they won't like it. It's their deal. It's that simple. So once you've gotten over that hump it's easy from there.

I happen to live for '67 2door Hartops! Always have and always will. I've owned 3 of em. And have 1 right now in the shop.:beers: To me there's nothing better.

So a little over a year ago I found a very solid (50k miles solid) 4door that I could get very cheap ($1500) and it also happened to be a driver. I wasn't lookin for a driver, I was lookin for 2door parts! But things changed and I drove it for a while. I told myself when I bought it that I was gonna tear it down for parts for the 2door and make good on the dollars I could recoup from some of the parts. Well one thing lead to another and to make a long story short I am still driving it today!! 194/3 on the tree.

Fact is I hate the gutless 194 and despise the 3 on the tree! But it does what I need it to do for now. So I scratched the scrapping of it and am currently in the process of

converting it to Power rack & pinion steering

I've also made some creature comfort changes to make the drive train bearable for a short while longer.

Black leather bucket seats from a Saturn

Upgraded front suspension with CPP kit lower kit & ADDCO 1" sway bar (Drives a million times better!)

Bolted on some aftermarket (OK STOCK BMW) wheels & tires.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/31chevy/67%20Nova%204dr/IMG_4533.jpg

I have many other things planned for it as I continue to drive it. It's still a 4 door! But it fits my style:cool: I don't' want to drive a newer vehicle. But I can drive this old car with new vehicle guts!! Yeah it's a 4 door. But it's MY 4 door! And I'd rather drive this than any Honda Accord or Toyota Camry!

I think that there is not a better sleeper ever made, except for a twin turbo 302 Ford Fairmont, than the 3rd gen 4 door Nova. A 1974 or so 4 door with some steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps with a big block or carbureted LSX would be pure beauty. Just picture a little ricer or even a small block camaro or Nova pulling up talking trash, all of a sudden, they are looking at tail lights.:D

Just a idea.

Change the center idler it a grooved pulley that can run inside the belt. You can eliminate that idler on the right.

Yeah:thumbsup: I jumped the gun on the A/C delete pulley kit. I bought it before I figured out what I was gonna do on the front there. No big..I got the "GOOD OLE BOY" deal at NAPA so it didn't cost me much. I'm going to measure it up for a belt just like you described and get a new belt. You wouldn't happen to know apart # for that pulley would ya Al?

I'm also still contemplating on whether I should run a standard power steering pump unit or the remote reservoir style I alreayd picked up CHEAP! I think both will work so I'll turn in the pull-a-part pump core I have for a new one. Should work fine.

As always Al, THANKS MUCH for your input!! Much Appreciated .
I'll still cut ya a deal on that '99 4.3l :D Buu-deeee!!!
