I found a new junkyard in my area(actually 2miles behind my house and its been there forever) They only have old cars 30's-70's. It was sad today as i walked around and saw at least 20 3rd gen novas a handful of 1st gens and a bunch of 68-69 chevelles and many more "muscle cars" that can still be saved.:(

i wonder about that sometimes... i see shots of old wrecking yards such as the one you're posting and wonder if any of those cars ARE actually worth saving... doesn't the weather get real nasty up there in Pennsylvania ??? with all those cars subjected to the elements for years it's gotta play havoc with the sheet metal.
i'd think they'd all be rust buckets sitting with the rockers/frames etc on the ground for so long.
i agree though it's a shame ta see all those cars just rusting away :(

yea, the weather up here does kill the cars, and most of the cars here were up on blocks. most of the cars did have a good portion of rust, but there were still some decent finds. Almost every car in there still had all the glass and chrome pieces. I saw a 71 vega all the way in the back that was pretty solid with the exception of the quaters. I also spotted a 74 nova that looked like you could almost hop in and start driving it today. I didnt leave empty handed either. I got a complete black interior for my nova, without the seats, radiator support and grill.
while I certainly agree it is sad to see classic cars rusting away in a yard, if we saved them all, then I think there would be quite a shortage of used parts for the rest of us....
Seriously, though, I think the truth is, as hard as it may be to believe, is that there is just not enough people out there with the interest, skills, money and motivation to save these cars. It is up to us. (Just don't let the yard owner know you're interested, cuz then the cars/parts somehow seem to become much more expensive);)

Can you snag me a drivers side vent window and frame from one of the third gens?

I just moved and am hoping to get some time here in the fall to drive around and look to see where all the salvage yards are hiding. That tends to be the best time to look as the leaves have fallen off the trees and you can actually see a ways back further from the road. Also I now live in farm Vill, so it may be time to start talking to the farmers and see what they have rotting away in the back corners of barns.
John, the winters do tend to be rough on the sheet metal up here do to the heavy salting of roads, but this caused a lot of old cars to go off the road while their drive terrain was still pretty new! Also if you find a car that was parked with just a little for thought the interior can be a gold mine in itself. Stainless trim is also generally in pretty good shape. If the car is parked under something that keeps the sun from directly hitting the glass a lot of the parts that are normally cracked and dried out from sun baking will still be good. I actually saw a chevelle that was rusted out half way up the sides, but had a vinyl top on it that still looked like new!
