Greetings all, I picked up this shaker assembly form a 70 ish Trans Am. Not sure which direction I like better or will perform better., The other question is, do I leave it as a shaker or permanently mount it to the hood??
Any thoughts??

if it's a functional ram air, turn it around and mount it the way it's intended ;)
oh, and of course... let it SHAKE

Some of those shaker assemblies are off set to one side to make up for the Trans Am's engine out of center alignment. Make sure you do some checking/measuring before cutting your hood.

I actually plan to install hood / fenders first and liwer the hood down on the lower part of the shaker assembly (it has 2 pieces) I will more then likely make a wood cutout so it just touches the hood and cover it in grease to give me an exact outline of where it needs to sit, then carve away!
Sound like a plan?
Thanks for the input guys, shake it will!!!!

If you are going to use it; by all means make it a shaker. That means a piece of flat sheet metal will be needed to be welded to the underside of the hood for it to seal against (and provide a nice closed appearance around the lip). It was designed to be mounted with a rear opening so that the driver (and passenger being impressed) could watch the door open to allow in cold air. There isn't any chance of ram air taking place while it is facing backwards though. Since it is so close to the laminar flow along the hood (too low to get into the static air above the hood) I do no think having it face forward will be of much help either in terms of ram air pressurization, but it couldn't hurt; as there is probably a low pressure area behind the scoop when installed correctly.

Installed (kinda) Still have to rig up a gasket to go between the shaker and the hood. Here is a video link of it Ssshhhaaakkkiiinnngggg. lol. Dunno if everyone will be able to watch it, I'm uploading it on another site as I type this so if this link does not work let me know. Updated pics in second album as well.

McMaster-Carr shows a bulb type seal that'd probably work to seal the housing and hood ;)

use the search function... "bulb seal" and browse around ;)
