View Full Version : 67 4 dr sedan (change) to 2 dr sedan
72 cheyenne Aug 20th, 08, 12:28 PM I would like to start off by saying its a pleasure to be a member and look forward to talking with all of you, Now my question is has anyone ever took a 4 dr 67 chevy II and made a 2 dr sedan. i know i know but it seems like its very possible and in my mind it would make perfect sense, i just wanted to see if any of you have ever known anyone or have done it. now im not talking about just welding the back doors shut and saying its a 2 door now, what im thinking is a donor 2 dr sedan for the striker post and iner quarter glass sheet metal , and a pr of 2 dr sedan doors and new quarters. i know it sound like a lot of work. but i have rebuilt a few late model totals that i have cut into , cut door jams out and etc. and have install a few quarters and floor pans, but never something like this. i know it has had to be done before. thanks vince.
SHIFTY4 Aug 20th, 08, 12:36 PM i've heard it being done on a few wagons. it'd be about the same amount of work on a 4 door to a two door car.
a LOT of work...
wouldn't it be easier/cheaper to just buy that 2 door car instead of buying a 4 door and a donor 2 door ???
welcome to Team Nova by the way ;)

Big Dave Aug 20th, 08, 01:18 PM As far as that goes you can make all of the parts to assemble a brand new sheet metal '66-'67 body 2 door hard top out of flat sheet stock if you feel up to forming all of the parts by hand. It just takes a little work for a competent sheet metal shop. Only you know what you are capable of, and how much time and effort you want to put into the project. Like Johnny asked why not restore a two door instead of making one.
This form of customizing has been done a number of times on "Shoe Box" 1955 and 1957 Chevy's. Well they used to before every part for the car was available as a repop so you could assemble your own brand new car with a big Miller electric glue gun, and a little time grinding, sanding and prepping for paint. Once new metal became available no one has felt compelled to put themselves through all of the work.
I also would like to remind you that more and more repop parts are being made for early Novas (ignoring the complete fiberglass Vennom kit car from Promax Corporation.)

It is only a matter of time before Goodmark has a full clone body reproduced and then all of the rust bucket project cars will disappear as their cowl tags become more valuable than the car (just as is happening now with first generation Camaro's).

72 cheyenne Aug 20th, 08, 03:27 PM i know that it sounds like im crazy but it looks pretty simple and straight foward to me , but i have thought about making a pro touring more door

Look again if you are talking about making a 4 door a 2 door and not just welding the back doors closed it is a ton of work....

Wait a second I seen this done and I beleive it can be done its just a lot of work and in my opinion a complete waist of time.
The car doesn't look right even when done well. And the value will always be low because its a hacked up 4 door.

patman Sep 4th, 08, 09:25 PM I'll have to see if I can find the thread again, but I remember seeing pix from a 4->2 conversion that came out pretty much undetectably. It can be done...

Big Dave Sep 4th, 08, 10:22 PM Like I said it was a monthly occurrence in all of the car mags back in the seventies, but people were then restoring 55-57 Chevy's by converting a more door to a two door because "early model" figure eight racing had rid the world of shoeboxes. There were complete tech articles in Rod and Custom detailing the complete process spread out over eight pages in glorious black and white. They also showed you how to convert an unloved 56 into the much more popular 57.
But in every case it was just an exercise in body work, a challenge if you will (like climbing a mountain) to prove it could be done, not because the world needed another two door hard top 1957 Bel Air.

That's the car that came to mind when I first read this thread. They claim it was a 40 hour deal in the shop, no idea how many guys though, and it's nice but rough.
I love it myself. I can see me getting bored with my car and hacking it up. Worst case I'll just have a parts car on my hands.:D
