After installing the 383 in my '69 Nova, I noticed it was setting about an inch to the right of center. I've seen in other posts that big blocks use mounts to set the engine to the right for clearance issues. What about the small block? Is it possible I got BB mounts thinking they were SB? Salvage yard purchase. Everything lines up OK, and it runs well, but the Goodmark hood won't clear the 14" air cleaner. Suggestions? Solutions? Thanks in advance.

Pat it sounds as though you did pick up some BB frame stands. Is the transmission crossmember also offset? If not that may cause some problems.

If the aircleaner is the only issue you could try a dropped base for added clearence. The BB factory stands are nicer then the reproductions, so if they are removed you may want to hang onto them in case you decide on a BB in the future. Just remember the the transmission crossmember needs to match the position of the motor mounts or the mounts will have a side load on them causing early failure.

I'd be running back to that yard to see if I could find the car those mounts came out of!!
