View Full Version : Almost a GASSER GRUMPY'S TOY Jul 25th, 08, 12:09 AM Made some progress tonight on my longroof gasser project. What do you think? SHIFTY4 Jul 25th, 08, 12:12 AM i see NUTHINK but red X's and that's because they're all linked to a different site which some people are either not members, or not welcome... maybe if you posted them here at this site everyone could enjoy them ;) David_H Jul 25th, 08, 12:15 AM Red x GRUMPY'S TOY Jul 25th, 08, 12:19 AM Try it now! SHIFTY4 Jul 25th, 08, 12:22 AM much better Thanks ;) so now please s'plain the technic used on the lettering... paint, wait ta dry, wipe with thinner ??? looks REAL nice... some how i find the name fitting ;) GRUMPY'S TOY Jul 25th, 08, 12:47 AM Anceint Chinese secret!!!!!:D Actually it was very easy. Had my dad make a stencil ( Dad owns a sign shop) apply stencil to car, spray LACQUER into a cup and BRUSH it on over the stencil. Wait for paint to dry, remove stencil and wet sand with 1500 and 2000 grit sand paper til you get desired results. SHIFTY4 Jul 25th, 08, 12:53 AM of all the times to not own the Ol'JollyRodder :( i'd have done that in a heartbeat !!! NICE JOB (two thumbsup)  GRUMPY'S TOY Jul 25th, 08, 12:59 AM Thanks! I practiced on an old hood that I have last night. I tried spraying the paint on then sanding then I tried brushing it on. Spraying it was MUCH faster BUT when I brushed it on then sanded, it gave it a different look. The look I was looking for! When you look at the letters you can still BARELY see the brush strokes. When I sprayed the paint you don't get that look.:noway: I can't wait to see it in daylight ! Hopefully it has the PATINA look that I want! SHIFTY4 Jul 25th, 08, 01:06 AM i was told that instead of sanding to use a rag with thinner on it (very little, almost dry) and take off the paint very little at a time... then there's no sand marks on the base layer of paint ;) keep us posted with pics & updates ;) GRUMPY'S TOY Jul 27th, 08, 01:55 AM *******************UPDATE!************************ **** Trailered the longroof to a show today and won a BEST IN CLASS trophy!:D:thumbsup: I was quite suprised.
