View Full Version : How do you remove the hook from a glove box door. raidmagic May 9th, 08, 09:09 PM It's a 66 and I got a new hook for the latch and I can't get the old hook out of the lock. Any ideas? Thanks SHIFTY4 May 9th, 08, 09:10 PM isn't there a thin diameter roll pin pressed through it ??? raidmagic May 9th, 08, 09:31 PM No it has two small ears that seem to just sit in place inside the lock. I can't figure out to get the lock apart without breaking it. SHIFTY4 May 9th, 08, 09:50 PM well, i'm TRYIN' ta help but my Rotteness gets in da way :D i just went out and looked at my glovebox lock on my '64 and i see what ya mean... i'm thinking either the bezel needs to come off, the lock cylinder removed to get to the pins (?) or maybe they're spring loaded... maybe a razor blade slid inbetween the hook and lock body and slide over will detach the hook... this is only a guess both ways as i really AIN'T GOTTA CLUE (there's the Rotteness in me comin' out :D) sorry bud, i'm of no help on this one :( Big Dave May 10th, 08, 01:02 AM I hold it by the gills and use a pair of needle nose pliers. Only kidding! I have no idea what the problem is you are having. Could you post a picture? I am sure once we know what the problem is we can find a solution. Big Dave (getting punchy after a long week and late at night). 1bad66ss May 10th, 08, 10:21 AM Good luck getting it apart w/o tearing up the bezel. I had the same issue with mine, after spending a fair mount of time on it, I ended up buying a new one. SHIFTY4 May 10th, 08, 11:54 AM Good luck getting it apart w/o tearing up the bezel. I had the same issue with mine, after spending a fair mount of time on it, I ended up buying a new one. so is that how it's done ??? the bezel needs to be removed ??? raidmagic May 10th, 08, 01:49 PM So that was my thought, I had to remove the bezel. Great. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/raidmagic/lock2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/raidmagic/lock.jpg Big Dave May 10th, 08, 02:14 PM OK I now have a foggy idea as to the topic under discussion. I am going to make two assumptions here. First that GM does the same thing all the time, so if the trick worked in 1955 it probably still works in 1966. Second that you still have the original trunk key that came with the vehicle and that the locks have not been changed at any time. Take the trunk key and insert it in the glove box lock. Turn to the right or left a quarter turn while pushing a pin or stiff wire into the hole in the back. The lock tumblers should now come out allowing the mechanism to fall apart. If that doesn't work, I would take it to a lock smith and see if he would be nice enough to show you how it comes apart. :) Big Dave raidmagic May 10th, 08, 02:59 PM I GOT IT!!!!!! I started playing with it and when I unlocked it that allowed me to push the hook down and out. I took a picture of the inside and how it goes in the lock. You can see in the picture where it's U shaped then in the second pic you can see the ears on the hook. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/raidmagic/insidelock.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/raidmagic/lockhook.jpg Thanks for all the help. |
