where would i look on my engine for the casting number and how would i determine if it is the original engine?

also how would i go about determining if my car is really an ss?

i looked around online and i read that there was nothing in the vin number for 1970 that would indicate?

thanks again guys,
Conor

This site has all of the casting number info you will need. I also have a bunch of books on interchange and casting numbers from back when I used to use only GM parts.

Check the number stamped in the deck behind the alternator part of the VIN will be stamped there. Broadcast sheet or original engine is the only way to know for sure if the car is a SS.Does the car have a 12 bolt rear?Disc brakes? There more clue's,but that is enough for now.
