Hello all!

I have a 70 nova with drum brakes up front, and I was thinking about buying a set of 15x7 FW code rallys Which I think are monte carlo wheels, my question is will they fit on the drums up front? and what size tires should I put on them without any rubbing issues, the car is totally stock. I would like the car to set up taller, and have a better stance. any help is greatly appreciated..Thanks

thing ya need ta know is what's the "offset" of the FW wheels ???

as far as fitting the drums, yeah, they shouldn't be an issue... offset is though if it's not enough to fit the car...

meaning if it needs a 4-1/4 offset and you're trying to install the same size wheel with 3" offset it'll move the wheel too far out and it'd cause the tires to hit...

check www.JollyRodder.com (http://www.JollyRodder.com) scroll left side area in "Chassis/Clips/Brakes/Springs/Shocks" and you'll find 2quicknova's tire/wheel fitment link (it's the last link in that section)... that might help ya ;)

The FW wheels all have a 4" (or 4.25" depending on where the measurment is take)backspacing. They should fit the front of your Nova with no problems.

From what I have found the FW code wheel is a 4-1/2 offset, What does the 70 nova require? Thank you.

Not to be argumentive but after measuring all 6 of mine they are 4" to the bead and 4 1/4" to the lip.

Sorry, I was not trying to be argumentive, I was just repeating what I had read on some site on the internet about the offset of the 15x7 FW code rally's. I do not know what they are, Because I dont have them in my hands yet, thats why I was asking if anyone here knew. Thanks all for your help..:)

Stacy actually I was referring to me being argumentive :) One of the problems with some info floating around on the net is a lot of people post things they have heard and then it starts to become something that is believed to be true. I always suggest that when in doubt do some research until you are sure.
The FW wheels have the most backspacing of all the 15" wheels. The AZ coded 15 x 8's have less, 3 3/4" or 4" again depending on where you take the measurements.
The GM method of measuring was to list the "offset" like John mentioned. The offset is the distance the wheel mounting area is offset from the center of the rim. In the case of the FW it is +.30" and the AZ is -.05". + being towards the front side and - being towards the back.
The 70 Nova was available with a 14 x 7 Rally wheel from the factory. The offset on the YJ 14x7 wheel was +.40". This is more backspacing then the FW so using that reasoning it should fit your car fine. There is a small difference in the wheel mounting between drum and disc but it shouldn't be enough to affect the fender to tire clearance.

Thank you for your info, Do you or anyone else know if I can use a 70 series tire on the 15x7 fw rallys? without any rubbing issues on my 70 nova, I was thinking about 225-70-15 Or would a 225-60-15 be better? Thanks all:)

The 225/70R15 will fit well on the 7" wheel. I have that tire on the front of my El Camino on an 8" wide wheel. The 225/70 is over 27" tall.

Very sharp El camino,! I have searched alot, but still cannot find anyone using a 225-70-15 on a 15x7 FW rally on a 70 nova, that can tell me if I will have any rubbing issues. Thanks for the photos:yes:

Stacy that is a tall tire and may rub the top of the inner fender under full suspension compression, like going through dips in the road at speed. Unless you need the height of a 70 series a 60 or 65 series maybe a better choice. What size tire are you using in the back?
The rear tires on the El Camino are 275/60 and 28" tall, so the 225/70's do not look out of place on the front.

Thanks for the compliment, the paint needs redone, but it is a daily driver for now so paint will wait.

Thank you for the advice, I found the anwser to my question on e-bay. There is a 70 nova on there that has 225-60-15 tires on 15x7 rallys, I like the way it sits, I am going to use the same size on all four tires. My nova has a powerglide, I would like a 700r4 sometime in the future

If it is the red one it looks great with that tire/wheel combo. Good choice

Yes the red one from florida item#300218027603 They are calling that car a SS but it does not have a power brake booster! according to one of the nova sites all true SS cars in 70 had power brakes. hope they are correct about the tire and wheel size:)
