View Full Version : tach
69nova Apr 27th, 08, 07:46 PM how hard would it be to get rid of the granny style speedo and replace it with another pannel in which to install custom gauges?
and is it possible to put a tach on this car?
ovrdrive Apr 27th, 08, 10:26 PM You mean something like this:

69nova Apr 27th, 08, 10:34 PM yes, but Im a do it myselfer :)
I would assume take the old speedo out, cut out a piece of metal to fit in its place, and drill for my gauges accordingly?
ovrdrive Apr 27th, 08, 11:00 PM Sounds feasable but, you are limited to the size of your gauges due to the stock opening.
mcarmaniac Apr 27th, 08, 11:01 PM that seems like it would work. I remember seeing a thread somewhere were someone did that. I just don't remember were, maybe another member can help me?

I realize that :D
Big Dave Apr 28th, 08, 06:26 PM You can use exhaust tubing to mount gauges in and weld the tubing onto the plate that will be your new dash so that they look to be mounted in pods sticking out of the dash (angled for optimum viewing). Once it is fabbed up it can be powder coated, painted, vinyl dipped, or chromed to suit your desires. (pays to read those old Rod & Custom mags from the fifties and sixties).

if you're referring to a 1st genner, i did a conversion you might be interested in for your '65... check www.JollyRodder.com (http://www.JollyRodder.com) and check out the gauge cluster page for the conversion info...

hehe, I can understand, with the price of gas Im missing my little geo metro, 60 felt like I should be doing 200 due to the shakes and the fact that it was floored, but its hard to argue with 50 mpg.
I stripped it out to be a circle track racer (mini bomber) then sold it for 50 bucks, damn it!
