View Full Version : 17x7 in front 17x8 in rear???
fjas70 Apr 16th, 08, 05:55 AM have a bone stock 70 nova...looking to put a 17x7 inch rim in front, and a 17x8 inch rim in back, will it work without any major mods??? is there any tricks to making it fit??? if so..what size tire and backspacing would i need????
lovemesumnova Apr 16th, 08, 01:28 PM i just put 17x7 235/45/17 on the front and 17x8 255/50/17 on the rear. the front fits perfect no rubbing....(YET!) i am going to have to modify the lip on the inner fenders just a bit in the rear to keep them from rubbing. basically just cutting the lip about a quarter of an inch or so or simply rolling it up caveman style with a body mallet!
ron1970nova Apr 16th, 08, 04:00 PM do you have a pic to post on how it looks, love to see the result!
fjas70 Apr 16th, 08, 04:39 PM what backspacing did you use??? what year is your car???
lovemesumnova Apr 16th, 08, 05:07 PM I will try to get a few pics up tonight hopefully....I used 4" back spacing on the front and 4.5" on the rear. That combo gave that little sucker a really agressive stance....
By the way...any idea on how I can post larger images when I do get some pics?

best bet is to crop/resize and then load to Photobucket, best size for viewing is an 825 width image... then it won't distort the screen ;)
look here for imaging info: http://www.novas.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1896

brett3xx Apr 25th, 08, 01:29 AM looks awesome. are those the new weld wheels? What do they rub on?
strtlegal Apr 26th, 08, 03:13 AM my old setup was 17x7 w/ 4" bsp for the front and 17x8 w/ 4.75" bsp in the rear...my front tires would rub on big bumps, but most people dont lower there frontend as much as mine. i switched the front suspension and and now run a wider tire with no rubbing..

They rub on the inner fenders in the rear on certain road conditions...but I also have weak and sagging mono's back there too! I plan on yanking them out this upcoming weekend and replacing them with the 3 leaf mono replacement springs from cpu muscle car parts.

my car had 2" dropped spindles and a hotckis lowering spring,,the car had the stance nailed, however would rub on that big nasty bolt in the center of the fender liner..so that needed to be trimmed...
also keep in mind the height of the tire your going to go with.

I will give you an update this weekend when I get them installed. They make a mono replacement that uses the mono perches...alot of guys want 4 or 5 leafs and those would need some mods but not many. I want to keep the factory stance with a bit more stability in the rear over bumps and such...just to keep the 255/50/17's from rubbing ya know...I'll keep you posted though:thumbsup:
